We stayed next to the bridge as the Best Western and had an excellent view of the bridge from our room. We also ate ot the Bridgeside Restaurant and walked around the base of the Oregon side of the bridge. Very cool stuff. After breakfast, we drove over it into Washington. It's worth a look for sure.

Historic bridge that connects Washington to Oregon. View of the river bed is great from the bridge. Costs 3 dollars to go across each direction. We wanted to walk across, but no walking lane and didn't look very safe.

Went across this bridge sooooo many times during our trip. Beautiful view. Feels odd to drive over the metal grill base. Scary when pedestrians are on it too, as it's not that wide and there is no dedicated path for them. Replaces a natural bridge that was formed hundreds of years ago after a mass landslide. On the OR side, the parking lot at the base (in Summer) has fresh fruit and fish stands. We bought a 2lb salmon and grilled it at home. Best salmon I've ever had.

If you want to be in 2 states at once then walk across the Bridge of the Gods. It spans across the Columbia River Gorge and shares itself between Oregon and Washington state. It is free to walk or bike across, but you share the bridge with the vehicles as there is no walkway. It is a steel grate bridge so you can see down below you, which freaks some people out. You can drive across too, but it costs a couple of bucks and doesn't have the same effect as walking it. There is no real parking to walk across as we ended paying $5 to park next to the entrance of it, which was meant more for people doing hikes from there. I recommend you find somewhere to park down in the town and just walk up to it. It's not far.

I/we have driven across the Golden Gate, the Bay and the Richmond Bridges as well as Pacific NW bridges multiple times. When in the US Army serving in Germany, I experienced some very interesting specimens. The Bridge of the Gods is located strategically joining Washington and Oregon state near the Bonneville Damn. We lived in Tacoma and have run over the Tacoma Narrow's #2, a replacement for "Galloping Gerty" and yet this bridge constructed differently in this specific area is an experience and a memory that is as solid as the Golden Gate. It is also referred to in the book "Wild" which is also a recent box office hit starring Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. If close...make time to see. You won't be sorry.

Looks just like the last scene of the movie Wild. It costs one dollar each way to drive over. I'm not sure if I'd want to walk over it though.

We stopped on a day trip from Portland. The bridge can be walked or driven and has fantastic art work at its base. This is hallowed ground for the Native American People of the Gorge. Legend says there was a natural stone Bridge of the Gods at this point. A fight among tribal brothers caused the bridge to collapse and formed the rapids that now impede navigation at this point. Lewis and Clarke had to portage around this point. The canal and locks were completed in the 1890's so the river could be used for shipping and travel.
The original modern bridge was built in the 1920's and revised in 1938. The bridge serves as the link connecting Oregon and Washington along the tri-state Pacific Crest Trail.
(An interesting thing--this is the bridge that is the final destination in the Reece Witherspoon movie, "Wild." )
There is a restaurant here as well.
The Native Americans still hold rights to these waters and only tribesmen are allowed to catch salmon along the river banks.
Native Americans set up stalls by the bridge. We bought salmon from Yakima tribesmen here. They filleted it as we watched. It was the very best salmon we have ever eaten!

It costs a buck each way across the bridge. It was built in 1951 so you would think it was paid for?? It is very pretty to look at but it should be free by now?

This bridge had a breathtaking view because it so high over the Columbia River, but if you are driving, you really don't want to look away from the road too much so you miss out, and you have to pay both ways to ride over it. My 13 year old was not impressed. Oh well.

Can you walk across the Bridge of the Gods?

You can walk across it. Be careful as you share the bridge with vehicles and cyclists. You have to walk against the traffic. It is free to walk across.
