This VI's a Tudor building still in regular for the same purpose for which it was built. The council still meet here, and it is easy to see why.

The Guildhall dates back to 1540 and is the most beautiful building in this lovely village. The interior has so much history to it and the main benefactor Dr William Penny Brookes (1809-1895) was the instigator for the revival of the Olympic Games
