Tuesday 20-02-24 the indoor Cattle Market was nearly full. Only as a flea market and fruit&veg stalls. Did walk with friend to the Square and there were stalls galore as you would see as a street market. Forget about the expensive Pie Shop it’s closed for the time being, for reservations. There’s a popup shop in arcade next door, but as I remember it had a nice feeling when you entered, choose then queued to pay, a nice chat with fellow customers. Go after 1 the vegfruit&flowers least half price. Have a geat day out.

We visited Melton Tuesday Market today 31/10/23. We went to the fruit and veg stall between Boots and the Cross. We purchased an Iceberg Lettuce and the lady charged us £1.50. I can only assume she was trying to make up profits on a miserable day. Beware when visiting this stall!!

on Nottingham Street and also in the indoor market. A great stall can be found. Called Jenny, a Filipino who cooked the most delicious dishes! Very friendly woman. We had the beef rendang and braised pork belly. Both were excellent.

We went to market on the Tuesday. I’d’ve liked to have seen the livestock but we were running late & it was almost over, although I’m not sure I could’ve looked them in the eye knowing what I knew. There was a pub just as you got in the gate! I’d’ve loved a beer in there but it was rather early & no one appeared to be serving anyway. You could get food & a hot drink in the market. They were selling the famous MM porkie pies & cheeses, for a price of course. I was well impressed with the amount of stalls, which were mainly bric-a-brac. But I wasn’t buying, I had to drag MrDW kicking & screaming from the place. Ideal if you fancy a good ole rummage.

Great variety of stalls, plenty of shops open and even FREE car parking on a Sunday, what more could you ask for?

We visited Melton Mobray on a day trip with the expectation that we would find a quaint little village like Bakewell steeped in tradition how wrong could we have been. After a 2 1/2 hour drive we called in a cafe that stated it had the best coffee with a variety of the famous pork pie. The service was really good but the place was a dirty mess that looked like it hadnt had a clean in years. we ordered a slice of pork pie and a coffee, when the food arrived it was the smallest slice ever, the meat was grey and inedible. in fact we were that underwhelmed with the town which was dirty, un kept and basically not a nice place to be. We decided just to leave even though we had travelled some distance but it was a relief to get back in the car.
If you are thinking of a visit honestly dont bother its a waste of time.....

Loved all the stalls, so much to see and/or buy. Plenty of choice if you want to have a snack or drink. We went when the farmers were there selling sheep, must have been thousands of them. Definitely a good day out. Tuesday is the day we would normally go.
After visiting the market well worth a trip to Melton Mowbray Country Park. Lovely walks around the lakes and the cafe is fab.

With most post pandemic town markets being reduced to a shadow of their former glory, it's heartwarming that Melton Market is a strong survivor and offers a broad variety of interesting individualised offerings. Let's hope the modernistic town planners leave it alone for a few years more. Please, no concrete and glass monolithes devouring real market "Experience".

What a fantastic market, streets lined with traders and the undercover bric-à-brac/ antiques to the livestock market. We visited on a Tuesday and enjoyed it very much. Also called at the Olde Pork Pie Shoppe …
