One of the best pubs I’ve been to in years
What a seriously cracking little find. Warm, cosy traditional pub interior, extremely well kept pint at under £4 (almost unheard of these days) and friendly staff. I’d go back to Deal just for this pub.

    Fabulous traditional old pub
We popped in for a drink on a dismal, wet Monday afternoon, and were very bald we had. It exudes atmosphere and it would be difficult to find somewhere more matching the stereotype of a proper English pub. Staff were welcoming and helpful. A good range of hand pumped ales along with lagers, ciders and Guinness. Prices were very reasonable. It was surprisingly, but nicely, busy. We would definitely go here again. Dog friendly.

historic pub with cosy, friendly feel, smugglers and pirates optional
Brilliant local pub in Deal's historic Middle Street conservation area. It felt a bit like going back in time - but with better beer and nicer service. In the olden dayes it would have been the sort of pub with a thick fug of tobacco smoke hanging over the taproom - and maybe a few smugglers and pirates in the corner. These days it has a cosy and friendly feel to it. When we visited it was pleasantly busy but not overcrowded. Popular with locals.

What we thought would be a nice pub turned into one of the most uncomfortable experiences ever. Horrible and hostile staff, who have terrible customer service and made us feel uncomfortable the minute we walked in. Me and my friends will definitely not be coming back here. The place requires more staff training in terms of how to treat customers. Practically screaming at my friend while he was buying his drink, horrible place.

The landlord here should employ persons with an engaging personality and communication skills who are sufficiently interested in their job to make a customer feel welcome and want to stay for more than one quick pint and who have the knowledge and care to pull a good pint. Yesterday, on a extremely hot day I was served the worst pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord I have ever been sold , flat and lifeless, no head at all , by two disinterested female bar staff. A great pity and a profound disappointment as I love a pint of Landlord and the pub is superb, unpretentious and original. When I visit again I hope I will have a better experience .

A proper local pub but everyone welcome. Very friendly staff & helpful. Socially distanced tables & sanitizer near the bar. Rear garden but down a lot of steps. Beer was local plus other beers. Beer was excellent & well kept.

THIS is a PROPER pub ! I was one a two day stop over in Deal - found this on first evening's exploratory walk. Was going to pop in on second evening - just for one but stayed for an hour plus in conversation was several of the locals. So, the beer is good - a decent range of ale, soft music, no fripperies ..... and conversation. that's what it it is all about for me. I guess it could be considered an 'old mans pub' but there are plenty catering for a younger, noisier constituency and fewer and fewer of pubs with traditional values.

First beer great with some great friends who moved to deal
Recently
I was upset as I was told the happy half hour was 5/30 to 6 pm don't miss it
I went for a beer at 5/55 with lots pf time to spare to be charged full price !!
I said no problem forget the order to be met with loads of aggression and swearing
Very weird and unprofessional
I really wish they learn customer manners 😄😄👍

A proper town pub in the old part of Deal. Visited yesterday on a cold and wet day in Deal. Enjoyed a couple of excellent pints of Dark Star. A pint and a gin and tonic came to £5.20. Too bad I was driving, otherwise I would have tried a few more.
Friendly landlady.

Traditional boozer in overpriced conservation area of Deal. The once famed happy half hour ( 17.30 -18.00) is now a miserable 24 minutes of pints at an inch short of the measure. Although you will get a big smile off the frightening landlady when you order a generous round at happy half on bank holidays. As she doesn't tell you there's no happy half at bank holidays or Sundays. If you're really unlucky you'll be offended by the most miserable barman in the uk. Who resembles one of the muppet show characters. Unfortunately, this establishment is sadly in decline of it's much happier times. Enjoy the fairly cheap ales before the greed and rudeness finally makes this pub not worth a visit at all.

Rude staff, including the landlord/manager. Customers smoking weed in the garden and staff chose to ignore.
Used to be nice!!!
