This is a small ruin operated by English Heritage (not National Trust as one reviewer seems to thing!). It provides excellent views of the Solent, ad is immediately adjacent to the ferry terminal. If you are planning a visit, be warned that it closes for...More

Instead of spending out on food in a local cafe why not make a picnic and pay the entrance fee on what you would have spend in the cafe? The is a lovely quiet grassed area with picnic benches and great views. Of course for...More

It's a small castle but the gunfire it could have laid down would have been devastating to an approaching enemy. If Yarmouth Castle missed, Hurst Castle across The Solent would have got 'em! It was a very windy day on our visit and the upper...More

It's not the biggest castle in the world, but it is well preserved and interesting. Great views across the Solent, provided the ferry isn't docked. Interesting displays and exhibitions. Best value if you're an NT member.

There was not very much to see, apart from views across the Solent. So dissapointing if you had to pay the entrance fee

Lovely little castle to visit. Interesting information about the history of the castle and inhabitants. Picnic tables overlooking the sea, a very pretty view. If the ferry is in though does spoil the view. Small gift shop. Will fill an hour if in the town.

Visited castle to discover another activity was closed. A wall was partially damaged therefore we were unable to visit. The lady on reception was superb and was not her fault in anyway.

There are a number of rooms at both levels to look at, and shelter in, however the open area at the top would be very exposed if the weather was poor. If you are paying to go in (i.e. not an English Heritage member), it... More
