About
The New Forest National Park is truly unique. It’s a ‘world capital’ for wildlife with a huge diversity of rare plants and animals– one of the reasons why it was made a National Park in 2005. A place of outstanding natural beauty, the unique landscape is shaped by the grazing of ponies, cattle and pigs that roam freely. These animals may appear wild, but they are owned by people called commoners. One of the last places in southern England to offer a sense of wildness and tranquillity, it’s a wonderful area to explore on foot, horseback, or by bike. Indeed William the Conqueror, who set aside the ‘New Forest’ for hunting more than 900 years ago, would probably recognise much of it today.

Beautiful Area
Jun 2021
The New Forest is a wonderful area to visit again and again. If you are there, do be sure the visit the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, where you can park easily and take walks among the tall trees.

Extensive area to review
Jun 2021
The New Forrest covers a wide area and can be explored on food, cycle or by car. Woods and streams are present as well as common land. It is best to stay there to make the most of it but even a diversion on your car trip to the West Country will enable you to appreciate it. Beware that the roads and towns get very crowded with traffic queues common. You may be lucky to see deer and ponies.

Fantastic place to walk, cycle or ride.
Jun 2021
This is a beautiful area of English countryside, lovingly and carefully managed by Forestry England. Almost limitless places to drive, cycle, walk or ride, and of course there are the famous horses just about everywhere. Plenty of car-parks dotted throughout the National Park, all free. It might get a bit busy in the summer, but we had few problems with other traffic or with parking. A real sense of being amongst nature and of being a guest in the horses' own territory.

Natural Wonder
Jun 2021
unspoilt natural wonder of England. I can't think of anywhere else where Horse, Cattle , Donkeys and Deer wander around and block traffic but nobody cares. You are 10mins from the sea or from cycling / walking through the woods. A must go place.

So enjoyable!

The markers mean it's impossible to get lost but then again I used to think the same of the UK! My advice is to use the forest paths and avoid the major roads.

Check the meaning of Forest to avoid confusion

Those who know understand that the New Forest is not extensively wooded but is mostly heathland. It’s not entirely flat so cycling about will involve some hills but nothing too taxing. The countryside is very beautiful and it’s very possible to see many vistas that give you the impression of wilderness though of course the land is really quite managed. Lovely place for so many reasons.

I highly recommend coming to visit the New Forest because you have everything you desire in short driving disrance. There are plenty of walks, picnic areas, shops, villages, towns, seaside, beaches, woodlands, car parks and a theme park. Fantastic place, will be sad to leave.

Lots of safe parking and plenty for the children to do. Lots of well signed paths to follow. Lot of animals that roam free forth to see.
