- Catherine1 contributionThanks!Had to write a review (don't normally) as we went to Bexhill museum today and it was wonderful! Very warm and welcoming. Fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable staff. My children (7) loved it. I saw lots of very interesting displays. Will go back on my own so I can read more of the descriptions/ information!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 March 2024
- JanetRedhill, United Kingdom63 contributionsBigger and better than it looks outsideRainy halfterm day excellent way to pass the morning. Took longer than expected-quite a variety to see and kept the kids (11 and 10) interest. Things to spot/quiz in return for a sticker. Staff friendly and helpful. Absolute worst thing was the parking though.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 May 2024
- SUPERTRAMP70Battle, United Kingdom430 contributionsAmazing museum experienceOf all the years living in East Sussex, I have never visited the museum. Went along to the Easter egg hunt and was overwhelmed by the museum. The volunteers are a credit to the museum full of knowledge and very welcoming . We went quite late, so I had to rush around but will definitely go backVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 June 2024
- SonTosh4 contributionsSuch an interesting little museum!A must 'go to' place! This beautiful little museum will be worth every minute of your visit! Welcoming and knowledgable volunteers who are clearly proud of where they work. Lots of interest for kids to 92yr olds. With a lift between floors, it makes it easy to get around the exhibits. Look out for Eddie Izzard's family model railways. Plus - who knew that Bexhill on Sea was the birthplace of British motor racing?! Thank you to Gordon and Chris for making our visit the best it could be; you do your museum proud and they couldn't wish any more from you wonderful volunteers! Clean toilets, a cafe and easy disabled access. If ever you find yourself in or near Bexhill on Sea, pay this museum a visit and you won't be disappointed.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 June 2024
- James M1 contributionWonderful Bexhill nostalgia tripA very well ordered and presented museum with fun interactions for children, I loved the old movie of Bexhill, especially Egerton Park, Churchill's boy's costume, the cuneiform stones, duck billed platypus, and exhibit descriptions, even a famous artist's paining of one of the local attractions, a real treasure trove and so much to see, wonderful nostalgia trip and very caring and inspiring and knowledgeable staff who made us feel relaxed and welcome. Highly recommended. The children loved it too and found the exhibits exciting, even the costumes. Drinks available and a souvenir shop, place for a buggy.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 June 2024
- Jane DReigate, United Kingdom15 contributionsDelightful museum with enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteersI have always loved town museums for their variety and local relevance. Bexhill was no exception. With exhibits explaining the Maharajah of Cooch Behar's connection with the town, through a fantastic costume display, stuffed birds and old maps to Eddie(Suzy) Izzard's train set, there is something to fascinate everyone. The volunteers were lovely and it was a happy way to spend a couple of hours.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 July 2024
- Veran P20 contributionsGreat rainy day activityMy niece and her daughters (10 & 8 years old) came to visit me on an overcast rainy day .They absolutely loved Bexhill Museum and did all of the activity sheets . They loved all of the interactive and the 8 year old especially loved listening to the wartime stories on the headphones Their mum and I showed them how to use the old style dial telephoneswhich was fascinating. All of the volunteers were very friendly ,knowledgeable and interesting . We ended having a late lunch as they couldn't tear themselves away from all the interesting exhibits.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 July 2024
- Fircombe H1 contributionCracking Museum!Really enjoyed our visit today - what a wonderful and interesting museum. Highlight for me was the knowledgeable volunteers. The Eddy Izzard model railways are well worth seeing but the story behind them is wonderful. If you are ever near Bexhill, please try to visit this museum - you will not be disappointed!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 July 2024
- Camper540988079896 contributionsWonderful museumWonderful place to visit. Great price and plenty to see. The staff are very helpful, and approachable. We spoke to a lovely member called Lorraine, who guided us. There is a beautiful display of costumes through the years, how people dressed, and toys from decades ago. Also the most wonderful display of bexhill during the war. It was an absolute pleasure to explore.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2024
- ajc100120135 contributionsWonderful and intriguing museumI spent a wonderful few hours at the museum. It is small but packed with lots of rich and intriguing material, with friendly and enthusiastic staff who are clearly proud of their town. The museum (I understand) is volunteer-run, which is even more of a reason to support it.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 30 August 2024

Truly welcoming and entertaining little museum - with something for everyone. Dinosaur footsteps, a Roman gladiator helmet, taxidermy, Winston Churchill’s boyhood dress, a knitted swimsuit, Eddie Izzard’s family railway set. Planes, trains and automobiles! All for £4 - and really knowledgeable museum staff/volunteers - would recommend to anyone.

What an amazing place. We visited on Boxing Day afternoon and were greeted by very polite, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. The contents of the museum flows in a logical development of Bexhill and there were volunteers in each area to add further information about the exhibits. Our little Grandson (2) was busy trying to find ‘Rudolph’ and was mesmerised by the excellent Eddy Izzard Railways (previously seen on Pete Watermans TV program). The railway display must not be missed. The winter layout has so many features brilliantly explained by the volunteers. A shop (railway and local books, pocket money toys ) and a small welcoming Coffee shop adds to the atmosphere. Admissions are really reasonable (£4 adults/£3 concessions) and Annual Tickets for two people at the same address is £22.50 is fantastic value).
There is so much to see, you can’t do it in one visit. Thanks to everyone who is involved in running this gem in Bexhill.

I have been meaning to visit the Bexhill Museum for a while and today, a beautiful January day, we finally made it. We were not disappointed. An eclectic collection of items many directly linked to Bexhill. Some exhibits were millions of years old and others merely within one hundred years.
What made our visit so special was the enthusiasm and knowledge of the guides who managed to bring much of what we saw to life and were very happy to answer questions and tell us more about the history of one of our favourite haunts.
The museum is right by Egerton Park, a lovely place to wander around, we didn't try the tearoom, but a good reason to make a return visit.
If you are in Bexhill and want a gentle journey through the diverse history of the place I would really recommend a couple of hours browsing the displays.

What a lovely museum. There are many varied displays to look at and the staff, many of whom are volunteers, are very knowledgeable and helpful. The Izzard family trainsets are wonderful and have buttons to press - which appeals to both old and young. My husband and I visited for the princely sum of £2.50 each (old wrinklies rate) and it would have been a bargain at twice the price. An ideal way to spend a morning or afternoon at Bexhill. As the museum backs onto Egerton Park you could even make a day of it.The parking on Bexhill seafront is only £2 for 10 hours (8am to 6pm) so all in all it's a bit of a bargain.

Spent a lovely couple of hours here today. It's a great little museum with a great mix of exhibits. My personal favourite is the natural history section (which has remained almost unchanged from when I was a child). The dinosaur bones are awesome! The newer areas contain the costume museum (which used to be located in Bexhill Old Town), the motor car area, and the World War II area. The museum is run by volunteers who were all extremely lovely! Volunteer Steve gave us some great information about a shipwreck from the 1600s that was recently discovered only a few miles off the coast of Bexhill. It was a Dutch ship containing building materials and 3.5 metre long marble columns are sitting at the bottom of the ocean! They also have the first fire engine used in Bexhill, and the old rocking horses that I'm sure many of us from Bexhill remember using as a child in Egerton Park. I was also fascinated to learn that the building two doors up from where I live was destroyed during the Second World War! There is also a cute little gift shop with some little toys I remember from childhood. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband and I were staying in Bexhill for our mini-moon and thought we would give the museum a try. The layout of the first part of the museum seemed a bit tight and as there were several other people admitted around the same time as us, it was difficult to get past and actually look at what we wanted to in peace. Some of the exhibits were more interesting than others. We did feel irritated by one of the volunteers; we were trying to look at and read the displays ourselves but she kept butting in trying to give us information which was already on the display. I understand they are passionate about the museum but they should leave people to look around/take in the information at their own pace and without interruption, unless we’d initiated conversation and wanted to know more. For me, this spoilt the experience somewhat because I couldn’t concentrate or process what I was reading. The Bexhill model presentation was interesting - a shame the sound effects weren’t working but still a nice experience. The toilets are in the complete wrong place - people had to squeeze their way through past the presentation area to access the toilets, which is obviously inconvenient and interrupts the presentation for those listening. On both entering and exiting, we heard staff sharing how much money the museum had taken on various days. I can imagine they are proud that people are visiting, but it’s a bit distasteful discussing profits when customers are in earshot. Not sure if I would visit again but for the reasonable admission, it’s worth a look around for a couple of hours.

Went to Bexhill Museum today what a find, if you are near the area this is a must to visit. There are so many volunteers who speak to you as you walk round telling you so many facts about artefacts at the museum, so very interesting. A gentleman volunteer spoke to us in depth about the Trainset which was gifted by Izzy Izard, it shows Bexhill town in miniature and the gentleman knew so many wonderful stories from WW2 about the history of the area, it made our day. Would 100% recommend visiting here.

I went with my son who is 9 and my daughter who is 6 after playing at Egerton park which is behind it.
We decided to get away from the sunshine and have a look in Bexhill museum. The entry fee was only £3 for adults and £1.50 each child. Which I thought was an absolute bargain. We were greeted by some friendly staff who I believe volunteer there. They were very friendly and knowledgeable of everything in the museum and the history of Bexhill. My children really enjoyed playing the free quiz is in each room I learnt a lot from it. All the artefacts and Eddie Izzard‘s train set was incredible! We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be spreading the word to come to this museum thank you for all that you do to keep it running. We will return thank you to all the volunteers there xx

The whole visit was absolutely wonderful, the staff were friendly and informative. The price of entrance was really good and affordable. The ww2 and history of Bexhill was so good to learn about. So much to see and explore. Very interactive too.
My favourite was the costume museum - such a wide selection of outfits through the ages. The miniature railway was also a lovely highlight, the story behind it was so personal and very nice to learn
The cars as well were great to see . Something for everyone.
The only downfall was the accessibility once in the museum. The lift wasn't working. Which was a shame.

Museum just opened again and what a fascinating experience. So much to see and learn, staff/volunteers extremely knowledgeable and such a cheap admission price Absolutely fascinating to see all the exhibits and don't forget to look up at the ceiling. A great deal of effort has gone into these exhibits and just wish we had more time to visit so leave yourself enough time to get involved in everything. Will definitely be visiting again. Also good to see all the Covid safety measures in place.
