Reflecting on recent trip to Magnetic Island. Pretty place, a very real island. Not the place to go if you want to sip cocktails by the beach and enjoy the nightlife. Lots of restaurants closed. Wouldn’t return.

Maggie Island
Apr 2021 • Couples
We took the ferry over to Magnetic Island (Maggie) using a super sunrise deal (google this!)

We ended up catching a bus from the ferry terminal in Nelly Bay to the other side at Horseshoe Bay then made our walk back on foot visiting pretty much every bay and beach along the way coming across excellent lookouts also!

We were told how beautiful this island really was and told it was a must see but we had no idea we would find it to me this magical... straight out of a fairy tale! We covered over 25 km in one day!

With every twist and turn there’s plenty to see and do along the way. From spectacular scenery across the bays to hand feeding the beautiful and friendly rock wallabies there’s plenty for all ages,
Don’t be afraid to park the car and hike the walking tracks, you won’t be disappointed. A must for all alike!

Townsville's best attraction - a must do!
Nov 2020
Magnetic Island is gorgeous and exploring it should be compulsory if you are visiting Townsville. We hired one of the tiny topless cars and had a blast driving around the place. The roads are easy to navigate and there is more than enough to fill up your day.

Love to live here!
Aug 2020
Love the Island and all it has to offer, from Horseshoe Bay to Picnic Bay, Nelly Bay to West Point from lying on the beach to snorkelling to hiking.
Something for everyone, whether your hypo or hyper active!
You have beaches with seclusion or beaches with people.
Views that are spellbinding, breathtaking and awe inspiring, nature at its best.
Accomodation on a budget or without, supermarket and hire car/mini mokes/taxi/public transport.
Plenty of eateries from Horseshoe bay to Picnic bay.
Ferries every hour a short stroll from the Strand in Townsville.
Wouldn’t actually mind living here!

Sleepy Island Paradise
Jul 2020 • Friends
I traveled with my elderly, less abled, Mother. She is unable to walk far and does not swim, so what would a hiking, swimming, snorkeling, Island paradise hold for her? She loved it! I am not sure if it was due to the COVID pandemic, winter or because we went on a Monday, but it was not crowded at all. The weather was glorious and the day relaxing and lovely. We hired a car and drove straight over to Horeshoe Bay. There we relaxed at a picnic table enjoying the view and playing cards. Then it was off the Alma Beach, it also has a beautiful scenic park from which to see this small but picturesque beach. Then onto Picnic Bay for lunch overlooking the bay and the jetty. The lunch was delicious and a stroll out onto the jetty a must. The water is clear and we could see fish swimming around. There is a chair conveniently placed to rest awhile. Then it was back to Nelly Bay for a look through the shops before returning the car. We caught a bus back to the ferry. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and happy. It was a lively day. We ok not stayed a dew hours. We saw just about everything. Would we stay overnight or longer? You bet! You can't beat enjoying the the short drives between places, the relaxing sit at beaches and the delicious food.

Take a walk in the bush.
Great views.
Good exercise.
Wear good shoes – running shoes are fine.
Watch your step – it is a national park not a suburban walkway!
Wear a hat.
Take water – it is often hot on Maggie island.

Beautiful island
Mar 2020 • Couples
Got the ferry from Townsville. Very helpful lady selling the tickets advised us about using the bus & recommended buying the tickets there. Ferry trip took about 35 minutes to reach Nelly Bay. On arriving we got on the bus to Horseshoe Bay. This is a beautiful bay & very quiet on this particular day. We had a walk along the beach then sat by the swimming area to relax. We later caught the bus to Picnic Bay & had a walk along the jetty. We probably didn’t do the island justice as there are so many places to walk & visit, but we wanted to catch a return ferry about 4:30pm as we were facing a long drive the next day, but we will certainly return for longer.

Beautiful place to visit if you love walking!
Sep 2019 • Family
Beautiful island! We caught the ferry from Townsville which takes around 40 minutes. There is a car hire place when you get off the barge so we hired a topless 4 wheel drive and off we went!
There are buses to get you around the island but hiring a car is really the way to go! There are many coves and a few beaches only accessible by 4 wheel drive.
The walks are amazing, a hikers delight!
Lots of wildlife, we saw koalas and the rock wallabies!
