What a perfect bracing winter walk, with the right skill and the right kit. I've heard it said that there is no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes, and today proved the point. Conditions were quite adverse, but with the right...More

Our circular walk from/to Patterdale included: St. Sunday Crag, Deepdale Hause, Cofa Pike, Fairfield, Hart Crag, Hartsop above How and Deepdale Bridge. Steep rocky climbs to summits with wonderful panoramic views. The walk up to St. Sunday is a long steep climb (about 3 kms)....More

Shame I had no view at all! Final climb up from grisedale end in very low usability and high winds. Came down at the opposite end, and straight down. Steep and not on a path. Quick descent!

Feels like a hard walk up but worth it for the excellent views. Steep descent at the end. And wide safe path.

If you choose a good day, and I did, this is a beautiful walk. The views are superb in every direction. Having said that, never underestimate such a walk. It's not easy but the rewards are plenty.

Arduous climb but the views of Ullswater were worth it. If Helvellyn isn't for you, St Sunday may be. If you prefer to hike the valley floor, that is very beautiful also.

Great lakeland fell which we ascended from Patterdale. Quite steep but easy enough path. We carried on over the summit and took the path down to Grizedale Tarn and back along the valley. Long walk but very scenic. Good views from the top of Helvellyn...More

Great climb up to the crag from Birks, and then the path over Deepdale Hause and Cofa Pike is sublime.

There are several routes. We chose the route from Patterdale Hotel, through Glenamara Park to Thornhow end and the NE ridge, we descended over Birks and Arnison Crag. It was a fairly straight forward route on reasonable paths, stepped on the steep ascent. It was...More
