The views were terrific. The road was equally thrilling and scary! Not for the faint hearted driver (or passenger) however the views were worth it

My partner decided this was the shorter route home - I was terrified !!! It is spectacular scenery - I am sure the sheep were laughing at me !!! Not for a novice driver but worth it if you enjoy a scare !!! We stopped...More

We have travelled this road a few times over the years but always East to West, today was the first West to East drive and we can only say it is by far the most trying route coupled with the high winds and flooded roads,...More

Fantastic driving road and incredible scenery trying to distract you! wonderful single carriage winding mountain pass, care is definitely needed as we saw when an estate care tore 2 wheels on a corner! by far the best road in the UK, coupled with outstanding views!

Thankfully our UK friends did the driving. Great views, narrow winding, steep roads sometimes along a cliff. Stopped at the Roman Fort ruins. Allow for a 1/2 day of driving and sightseeing. Lots of picture opportunities. Watch for cows and sheep wandering the roadway.

Honestly the most scared I’ve ever been as a passenger in a car. The views were amazingly my tho. Cows and sheep everywhere. I’d like to go again instead walk it next time.

Beautiful scenery, through out the valley! I must say that this road is not good for unrelaxed drivers. Try not to go on a wet, fog ridden day. However, it does add a great layer of mystery to the history of the site. For history...More

Our very naughty sat nav decided to take us on this route rather than the main road to visit Ullswater lake. However finding ourselves going up Hardknott Pass from the Ravenglass railway Dalegarth end we soon found that there is no way of turning around....More

If you are going to do the passes don't forget about Honister pass, plus Kirkstone pass via a road called "The Struggle".

Hi Sarah, in my opinion both options are a nightmare. Cars are always coming in both directions and passing can be a challenge. Probably best if you can get there earlier as I would expect less traffic would be around then... More
