An interesting and impressive old church building, with strong links to the Cavendish family (became the Dues of Devonshire). The towers are unique. When we visited there were several schools learning about bible stories and the atmosphere was brilliant. And the army of volunteers, making...More
Given the size of Cartmel, the lovely Priory (church) is disproportionately large, but definitely worth a look if you are visiting Cartmel.

On arrival we were welcomed by one of the volunteers who provided us with a leaflet describing the main features of the priory. While we were there we were stopped several times by other volunteers keen to tell us about the history of the priory...More
We’d never heard of Cartmel. All we can say is, if you’re ‘doing’ the Lake District, don’t miss it! The Priory itself makes the visit worthwhile. But then there are the charming little shops. And there’s even a racecourse! Go visit!

We always find something different to look at the Priory. It is a beautiful place to visit. The Priory has a beautiful altar. Volunteers are very knowledgeable & alwYs willing to pass this onto visitors
