When I was a young boy I build mineature airplanes, mostly airplanes from the WW2. Now I had the chance to look and even touch the real planes. So the trip to Hanlon was a dream come true. A lot of memories and history. I recommed 👍

This small museum is just inside the base, for which you need a permit. It is just on the left as you drive in.There is a small ante room with a timeline of the base history. Then the main exhibition room with all sorts of radio and technical equipment. An enjoyable hour.

Soon to close down, the RAF base is steeped in history from previous Wars. A good selection to keep all ages interested with helpful staff on hand.

A fascinating collection of military communication equipment dating from WWI, with much of it operational. As well as the impressive exhibits, there is masses of documentation detailing communications development, and some personal histories of notable individuals involved. If that doesn't provide the answers, then the approachable, very knowledgeable and extremely enthusiastic staff will help fill in all of the gaps and so much more if necessary.

If you have a true interest in vintage radio, radar and electronics this is the place for you. No gimmicks or interactive exhibits, essentially for enthusiasts. Being situated just inside the northern side of RAF Henlow adds to the sense of authenticity.
A relatively modest establishment, the museum concentrates mainly on the period from WW1up to 1970. Air and ground transmitters plus receivers abound, a Y station mock up of the type which fed information to codebreakers at Bletchley Park adds to the flavour.
Open on the first Saturday of the month, January apart. Also open every Tuesday, but for Tuesday you must prebook. Free entry and secure parking. Conveniently situated about 5 miles from the A507 junction (10) of the A1(M).
