Difficult to park here, but very family and dog friendly walk, about 3 miles all the way around the lake.

Paved trails wide enough for several people to walk abrest and still have room for someone walking in the opposite direction. It is a pretty hike. Mostly flat, it is steep in several places and rolling in others. Canes are visible from the path as they hunt or rest on partly submerged logs on the
shore.
Caveats: there is just 1 map on the trail, and it doesn't even show "you are here." That and having just 1 map on a trail of over 2 miles is an abomination. On the trail there is no way to tell where you are. Moreover, most of the websites including the park's own do not show a map. How stupid is that? Most of the sites that have a map do not say that the trail is more than 2 miles. Benches for resting or enjoying the view are very scarce. The park crew uses a Gator to get around which fouls the air instead of an electric vehicle. The main parking lot is nearly always tight.

A wonderful lake to go and relax in during the day. It is minutes driving from campus. Several trails there.

Beautiful trail around the lake. It's about 4.5 miles. We started on the east end where it is paved and great views of lake and continued to west side which is unpaved and not as many views of the lake. The last part of the west side has signs which depict each type of tree. Wonderful hiking!

We drove around the lake and really enjoyed the nature all around. The short little bridge is quaint, and adds to the beauty of this prestine area.

On a reconnaissance mission as we are planning a birthday party for a timeframe in April. The folks at the Visitor Center were very helpful. We saw the area around the Visitor Center. The Lake offers many activities and boat rental starts in April. Parking lots in two places, however if the weather is nice parking could be a challenge. The pavillions we saw were nice. In fact after our visit we reserved pavillion # 4. The trails are paved which will be a benefit to some of the guests when we have our event. Grills are provided at the pavillion. Looking forward to coming back for the celebration party!

The trail is nice and they offer boat rentals and such (although we have never used them), but the place has a few problems.

They have very limited parking. On a nice day, you may drive here only to realize the lots are full and you are stuck in a line of 5 cars waiting to park. This has happened to us a few times so we don't really bother trying anymore.

Also there is a lot of dog waste along the trail due to people not cleaning up after their dogs. We also have encountered people who have let there dogs swim off the leash by the dam even though it is illegal. Our (large) dog doesn't mind other dogs most of the time, but he has gotten into it a time or two with unleashed dogs here that have ran up to him/us.

Went to scout this location for an upcoming OLLI course on the health benefits of spending time in forests. Lake Johnson is slightly off the beaten path (highways), and muted traffic noise still gets through the pleasant natural setting. Paths are paved to increase access for people with mobility issues, and benches or picnic tables are strategically placed throughout the park. As we were walking the path, a red-tailed hawk swooped past us - wow! The lake's lovely and serene. We'll be back.

Went paddle boarding on a Tuesday morning. Beautiful lake, decent paddle board, mildewed life jacket (what can you expect, I guess). The staff on the lake were young and somewhat reluctant to really get hands on, but it was my first experience and I had a good time. $10 to rent the paddle board per hour. Goes until August 25th (I believe) and then only available on weekends.
