This was our third time using Viaggi d' Ambra to plan and book a vacation. Like the other trips this one exceeded our expectations. Azzurra found excellent hotels in great locations. Each guide during the trip was superb. Our drives/guides in the Dolomite portion of the trip were outstanding. We started with a short delightful stay in Rome , followed by visiting the beautiful mountainous Dolomites in the north and finished with a Christmas stay in Venice.

Our stay in Rome, near the Piazza Navona included private walking tours of the Vatican, Colosseum and Villa Borghese. Our guides were both knowledgeable and friendly. The smaller pre Chistmas crowds of mid-December enhanced our experience with fewer people at popular sites and less crowded restaurants.
Our trip to the Dolomites included stays in Bolzano and Cortina d'Amprezzo. From these towns we made separate day trips into the mountains to visit passes and smaller towns.

The town of Bolzano is in the Alto Adige province , also known as the South Tyrol was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until World War I) reflects a more Austrian/German architectural feel than a typical Italian city. The restaurants are split between Germanic and Italian cuisine and even the Italian restaurants have Austrian influences .

Bolzano has a large outstanding Christmas market divided between three areas where we purchased numerous small handmade Christmas gifts for family. The market in the Piazza Walther Platz included several outdoor gathering areas for snacking, hot chocolate or an early evening aperitivo. Though cold, the area was crowded with both tourist and locals enjoying the festivities of the Christmas market. The South Tyrol Archeological Museum also located in Bolzano is the home of the preserved body of "Otzi" the iceman found in Dolomites near the border with Austria. The cable car station to Soprabolzano is an easy walk from the city center and a good way to view the valley and mountains.
One day was spend driving from Bolzano into the mountains. Our driver, Alessandro who is an Italian native of Bolzano (around 70% of this region’s population is of Austrian descent ) was wonderful. His enthusiasm, knowledge of the Dolomites, various passes, towns and cultural influences (both Austrian and Italian) was outstanding. This day experiencing the mountain's varying panoramas like the Sella Pass and small towns like Bressanone, was one of the trips high points.

Cortina D'Amprezzo part of the Veneto region of Italy is a ski resort, smaller than Bolzano, the town has always been part of Italy which is reflected in its style and restaurants. Nestled in a valley, surrounded by mountains the picturesque town has two cable cars to different mountain ski areas offering tremendous views. We spend another half day with AnnaRita, an excellent guide/driver who took us to other areas of the Dolomites including San Candito and Lake Braies. This trip during a light snow was another highlight. A native of Cortina, AnnaRita is very knowledgeable and gracious.

Our trip concluded spending a few days over Christmas in Venice. Our Hotel the American Dinesen was the best of the trip. It located on the Rio de S. Vio and is accessible by boat. This in a quite area near the Peggy Guggenheim Center and the Accademia Bridge Vaporetto stop . It is a 15-minute walk to Piazza San Marco. Highlights included a walking tour with Fiona of the Dorsoduro area of the city and a
boat tour to Murano and Burano.

Throughout planning the trip Azzurra send us links to the various hotels, information on train possibilities, as well as other information to assist us in making choices for our trip. Our final itinerary review included a zoom call to talk through the various details. Our final itinerary included details, names and phone numbers for all our hotels, guides and transport connections. Both Alessandro and AnnaRita complimented Azzurra on her communication skills and attention to detail.
The trip went off without any difficulties. We are looking forward to working with them on our next trip to Italy.

From the moment he picked us up to the moment he dropped us off it felt like Christian was an old friend rather than a guide. His van was large, clean, and comfortable. He was passionate and knowledgeable about the area we visited. He arranged for us to visit a small Chianti Classico winery and took us up a back road to get a beautiful perspective of San Gimignano. We have shared this company with everyone we know heading to Tuscany and look forward to using them again in future trips !

This was our fifth trip with Viaggi d’Ambra since 2011 and it certainly won’t be our last! We worked with Christian over a few months tweaking every detail of our trip until we were all pleased with our itinerary. He made many suggestions of places to visit and experiences that he knew we would like. The hotels were perfectly located and all of the local guides he used were so knowledgeable and personable and tailored the tour to our interests. We had the pleasure of Christian’s company and expertise on many of the days on our trip. He drove us on all of our excursions through beautiful countrysides and small villages always telling us about the area. He made a spur of the moment, impromptu stop at an olive farm where we were able to see the processing of the first olive oil of the season, complete with tasting and purchase! At a requested stop of ours at a ceramic shop in Deruta, he managed to get us a tour of the laboratory where we witnessed the start to finish process of these beautiful pieces of art. A visit and lunch at an organic cheese farm and a beautiful trip to the Cascata delle Marmore waterfall were also wonderful experiences. Saying Arrivederci to both Christian and Italy are like saying goodbye to dear friends but we’ll be back soon. Viaggi d’Ambra is the best way to experience Italy. Thank you Christian for giving us such wonderful memories.

My family and I spent the day with Azzurra visting two wineries and two small villages. Azzurra picked the perfect wineries for us to visit and the tour was EXACTLY what my family hoping for. The wineries were unique and off the beaten path, and it felt like we had the entire winery for ourselves. The wine, people and views were all top notch. Azzurra planned everyhing and she picked us up directly from our resort. Azzurra is the perfect guide who speaks fluent enligh, is kind and knowledgeable and lives in the region. I will recommend her to everyone who is visiting Tuscany. Her tour was the highlight of our trip!

We spent the day with Azzurra visiting a small village and two wineries. It was wonderful. Azzurra tailored the trip to exactly what we were looking for -- a relaxing day in the beautiful countryside and enjoying some great wines. I learned that she will help plan trips throughout Italy and will ask her for help planning our next trip to this great country. Our day with Azzurra may have been our favorite day of the trip.

My wife and I couldn’t have had a better experience with Christian. He catered the entire day around us and went at a pace we appreciated. We saw two different wineries and one olive oil tasting. The places he chose for us were perfectly sized and accommodating. So much so, I spent far too much having wineries send their wine to our home.

100% best tour we had while in Italy!

My wife Sharon and I spent a outstanding and unforgettable time with Azzurra from 12-23 September. Azzurra worked closely with me well in advance to help plan the time we would spend. I wanted to spend the time we had outside (not in) the major cities. We were starting our trip in Athens & Santorini but arranged to fly to Milan on the 12th and from that point on we were in Azzurra’s capable hands. We were transported to Monterosso Al Mare in the Cinque Terre where we enjoyed 3 wonderful days. Azzurra arranged a private boat tour along the coast which allowed us to see all five towns from the water and plan our follow up sight seeing. From there we were transported to the Gaiole in Chianti area for four days then Val d’Orcia area for the remainder of the time. It was all heavenly. Azzurra provided outstanding advise on where to stay, all three places were outstanding. She also provided outstanding transport arrangements - all went off without any sort of problem. We were in constant contact with Azzurra via WhatsApp when we weren’t actually with her. We spent eight full days with Azzurra where she picked us up at our hotel and took us to sight see and experience local hill towns, visit spectacular wineries and experience outstanding local restaurants. When you are with Azzurra you have a very strong, knowledgeable, considerate advocate - she takes care of everything. Our trip was full of wonderful memories thanks to Azzurra. We give her and Viaggi D’Ambra the highest possible thanks and recommendation. You can’t go wrong with Viaggi D’Ambra. We hope to be back soon.

We can’t say enough good things about the trip Christian planned for us in Italy. From the Amalfi Coast to Tuscany to Venice and to Lake Como, we loved every aspect of the trip. His recommendations were fantastic and the partners he uses for guides and drivers were excellent. He took care of every detail so we could just relax and enjoy the trip. We highly recommend him and would absolutely use him again for a future trip to Italy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with him and learning about Italian history and culture.

5+++++Stars. Christian is a top-notch guide. He is so much than a driver. His wealth of knowledge of Florence and the Tuscany region has so much depth of understanding. He is very informed of all wines and the region. When going to a winery, you can see how much they respect him. He is a consummate professional. Thank you Christian for a memorable two days ❣️

On time, great English and knowledge of the area. If he didn’t have knowledge of where we wanted to go, he found another guide to show us. My best recommendations would be I’m going to use him next time
