. Dicovering the Morne Brabant - The slave route The Morne Brabant is a mountain of the south-west of Mauritius, on the peninsula of the Morne. Declared World Heritage by UNESCO since July 6, 2008, the site is a sanctuary for runaway slaves and is a strong cultural and patrimonial symbol for every Mauritian. Being on private land, Le Morne Brabant is one of the most preserved and wildest mountains of the island. It includes a multitude of endemic species, such as the rare Trochetia Boutonania, and its red flaming flower. The hike to the summit of Morne Brabant lasts between three and four hours, depending on the homogeneity of the group. Once on top, we discover the breathtaking panoramic views on the west and south-west lagoons and part of of the island.

So we decided to hike this mountain during our stay and there were points I wandered what I was doing as you do have to climb and be very careful in particular coming down. It’s great sense of achievement when you get up there though...More

It’s quite challenging once the second half starts but absolutely rewarding to reach the cross on top. While many hotels advise to take a guide and some books say it’s mandatory - if you’re physically in shape you can do it well on your own....More

Don’t miss the drive to the end of the beach past the hotels onto the dirt road to then find the walk up Le Morne - it’s worth it for the views - if you want to go right to the top you need to...More

I couldn't do the trekking but the approach and surrounding areas are beautiful. One must undertake this hike if possible. This mountain is deeply attached to the heritage and history of Mauritius.

Absolutely stunning views at the top of the mountain. One of my favourite experiences in the whole of Mauritius. It's a difficult climb - you need to be fairly adventurous and should wear good walking shoes. No need to have a guide unless you are...More

Almost didn't visit this hill/mountain due to many fearful reviews. I guess a lot of hotel guests and tourists don't have much trekking experience, and also undertake the hike in improper gear (sandals, flat sneakers without any grip). Sure, there are a number of stretches...More

This hike starts off gently, with the trail winding around the coast. There are some excellent viewpoints along the way overlooking much of the South. You can turn back at this point, or carry on to a steep part with rocks. You don't need any...More

We stayed at the Paradis Beachcomber hotel and while walking around the hotel, at the golf course, beach, at the pool we had a magnificent view of this beautiful mountain. Would go back to Mauritius just for this

Probably the most beautiful hiking route on Mauritius. It takes about 4-5 hours to climb the mountain and return back, so I strongly recommend to start as early in the morning as possible. On the second half of the climb there's almost no shelter from...More

What a place!!! Amazing view to the blue bay. The First half of the trail is quite simple but the second one (at your own risk) is only for experienced mountaineers but the result is worth the effort.

The first part of the part of the ascent of Morne Brabant is very straightforward - along a good, broad path that never slopes too steeply. Just make sure you've got decent footwear and plenty of water. I was 64 when I did... More

You’re welcome. Honestly the way I see it is anyone should be able to reach the sign and those with moderate fitness can make it to the top. Wikiloc ranks the climb as moderate rather than difficult, which corroborates my... More

Better contact 'Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund" who will recommend and make arrangements for an official guide. Otherwise you may fall upon a few people who have no training as guide.
