Overview
More
. Dicovering the Morne Brabant - The slave route The Morne Brabant is a mountain of the south-west of Mauritius, on the peninsula of the Morne. Declared World Heritage by UNESCO since July 6, 2008, the site is a sanctuary for runaway slaves and is a strong cultural and patrimonial symbol for every Mauritian. Being on private land, Le Morne Brabant is one of the most preserved and wildest mountains of the island. It includes a multitude of endemic species, such as the rare Trochetia Boutonania, and its red flaming flower. The hike to the summit of Morne Brabant lasts between three and four hours, depending on the homogeneity of the group. Once on top, we discover the breathtaking panoramic views on the west and south-west lagoons and part of of the island.

I have two experiences from the hike to the top of the rock. The first is that it is relatively more difficult to climb, so I recommend it with a guide and good shoes, not sandals, as i saw. You do not have to look...More

We arrived on a sunny day in March around 1 pm. We had originally planned to start the day here but flipped our itinerary so we could see the tea factory while it was open. There is a 1.5km road to get to the trail...More

Easy walk at the beginning. The second half of the hike required more effort; but it is worthy! You will have an amazing view of the south of the country!

Lush & green part of the island. If you are in this area then you have to climb Le Morne. Use a guide to get the most of this. Up and down takes a good 3 hours and you start at 6.30. I burnt 3,000...More

Took a taxi to the mountain to the public entrance. Had to walk the last part to the public entrance cause the road was so bad for taxi. This was extra 1,5km easy walk. The last part of the climb was demanding, very steep so...More

We booked a trip with a guide since you can only come halfway up on your own - spend the money on a guide if you like hiking. We used Yanature, at 1500 RS a person. It was the best - and you get the...More

Yes. There were kids that were able to walk all the way up to the locked gate without issues at all. It is generally a wide mud path with a moderate incline on most parts.

Better contact 'Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund" who will recommend and make arrangements for an official guide. Otherwise you may fall upon a few people who have no training as guide.
