    Well it’s a Sunset…
This might be controversial but I didn’t see what the fuss was about with the sunset! The crowds even during off season was crazy. I was fortunate to be staying in Oia so could stroll to see it. Not sure I’d make a special trip! Yes it’s a beautiful sunset but most sunsets are!

    Sunset over the sea
We watched the sunset from top of one of the highest rooftop restaurants in Oia. I did a lot of research to try to figure out Fia or Oia and what side of Oia should you watch the sunset. I honestly still am unsure. Also, it varies on the time of year as to where the sun does set over Oia.

    Best way to see Santorini!
Our private day charter was extraordinary! Captain Antonis accompanied by his capable and so friendly crew of Paris, Antonis and George created a wonderful experience. The path we followed let us really experience Santorini from the water. They catered to our desires to stop and swim in the hot springs and ran the cruise at our own personal pace. The barbecue lunch was delicious and elaborate. Incredible traditional Greek food. The boat was beautiful and immaculate Our group of 12 loved our time with them and look forward to a next one!

    Great view, but very crowded
Oia is famous for its sunsets and rightly so. But, given the popularity, it becomes very crowded too. People lining up on the streets, stairs, shops..everywhere.. To get a view. If you get there an hour early, you should be able to find a place. There are several restaurants that offer a sunset view as well. You can stay in Oia too, if sunsets are your thing. There are several Airbnb's that offer sunset views from the terrace (we stayed in one). But these can get expensive, especially in the high tourist season. However, if you do end up staying in Oia (in one of these places), you don't have to worry about the crowd. Just walk to your terrace and enjoy the views. Having said that, you can enjoy equally great sunset views from Imerovigili too, amidst lot less crowd. So, if crowds bother you too much, watch it from Imerovigili.

Beautiful but way too busy in summer
It is a beautiful sunset, but I do feel it’s a massive ploy to get tourists into Oia for 7.30/8pm, all eating and drinking in places so they can see the sunset. I’ve never seen a place so crammed with people all waiting to see the sun set? I was baffled. It’s beautiful, and I’m glad I’ve seen it once, but I’ll pass on walking through a sea of people, most posing for photos, never again. I preferred watching the sunset from Fira!

Can’t imagine our trip without seeing the sunset at Oia!
I can’t imagine coming to Santorini and not experiencing Oia at sunset. The whole experience was magical. Around every corner were the quintessential images of what the Greek Islands are purported to be — intimately nested white washed homes dripping down the cliffs of the volcanic island, the tranquil aquamarine waters surrounding. There are lots of little shops, fabulous restaurants and just one beautiful setting after the other. The actual sunset event was a tad crowded as we waited elbow to elbow with lots of other eager spectators. The crowds didn’t diminish the experience in the slightest. I felt very grateful to have had the opportunity to be there.

Lovely sunset but couldn't believe the crowds.
This was the conclusion to our bus tour. The guide told us the viewing options. It is a lovely sunset but still can't get over the volume of people. There wouldn't have been that much if Taylor Swift had given a free concert. There's also a cringy round of applause when the sun disappears. We found an alternative way of getting back which saved time but still just made bus time because the crowd moves so slowly. Certainly worth seeing but look for quieter spot.

The thing to do in Oia
A must do in Oia and all over Santorini; be prepared to see a ton of tourists, standing for hours, through all the streets and alleyways in order to get the best glimpse of the sunset. Plan ahead or you may miss it. In September sunset happens around 7:30 PM so if you want a good spot you have to be there at least at 6:30 PM. getting to the old town to see the sunset can be very crowded and some people just simply choose to make a reservation at a restaurant or bar to have the views, but be prepared to pay an extra fee. In one location we were told that it was €25 per person which was quite frankly ridiculous just to be able to see it and watch the sunset when you can do it from many angles for free, but this is definitely the thing to do in the evenings before dinner

Oia - one of the most romantic place!
Any trip to Greece is incomplete without getting to Oia. Spending an evening in Oia is a treat indeed. It's just gorgeous during the sunset time. The views that you get are absolutely pictures. You'd keep clicking and still feel you didn't capture enough!

We enjoyed the beautiful sunset every evening from our small apartment in Amoudi Bay. What a gorgeous island is Santorini indeed. No wonder so many travelers come here. Whenever i look at the quite many photos we took, i can't help smiling to myself😃. We explored quite a bit during our 7-night stay on Santorini including short day trips to Imerovigli, Fira and Kamari. Lovely, lovely, lovely!!!🇬🇷

The views are awesome all throughout the city. However, I saw a lot of people being totally disrespectful to the people who live and work in Oia. Please do not climb onto people's private property and clean up after yourself!

Beautiful sunset. Managed to get an amazing spot in a paved road between the suites and restaurants. However, looking up and behind there were some huge crowds so I was glad not to be part of them. Choose your spot wisely, it’s worth it 🤩

Santorini sunset is really very special and everyone is saying is a must to go Oia to watch sunset. Oct is a good month and I stayed at both Oia and Fira watching a few sunsets. I must is really beautiful especially when you are staying at Caldera.
At Oia, I deliberately chose a Caldera Villa with sunset right in front so I need not crowd with the so many people , is crazy. They lined up on the walkways and waited an hour + under the Sun just to get the best spots. I cannot imagine myself doing that. Highly suggest stay at a nice place at Oia if you can and enjoy sunset at your comfort. Is really a memorable experience.

There are better places in Santorini to see this. It’s nice, it’s packed, IT’s uncomfortable, it’s expensive…..
Bout aria or Pirgos is better. A sunrise st Perissa is gorgeous .

It is a very beautiful experience. There are many options to see it and some bars and restaurants or simply in public places.

It would not right to visit Santorini and not visit Oia and Thira
Oia provides a wonderful backdrop for the sunset over the blue domed buildings. Oia itself is a very pretty spot with a church halfway up the walk to the viewing areas

The sunsets in Santorini are legendary. Do be prepared though, especially in towns such as Oia and Fira, to not be able to get anywhere near the best picture spots. The crowds are just too big. That’s not so say that it isn’t still beautiful - it is. Do the town earlier, watch the sunset then eat at one of the many fabulous restaurants.

Oia is such a romantic place for couples. It is a clean village with beautiful streets and shops. On a clear blue sky at night, the sunsets are memorable. I highly recommend you visit for the day and stay for dinner and the evening. Adventure through this fantastic, beautiful place and discover its beauty.
