This is a beautiful picture perfect place, lots of scammers looking to get your money! Food in this area is over priced by 5 times the price outside the area, rental of ATV is over priced and they scammed me… have one price and it became double that price, the hotel we stayed at was on the cliff side and amazing view, but there are so many tourists that it’s very hard to enjoy the space and walkways are uncomfortably tight, my advice is to see the sunrise and sunset from the area of the water treatment plant, opposite to the castle and wind mill

Spent the afternoon perusing around and the views alone were worth the trek to get there from one side of the island to the other. Make it point to visit if you find yourself in Santorini. Must see.

Don’t expect to see a castle with turrets and towers. There’s little left of the Venetian castle that once stood here - just the one surviving watchtower.
Even so, it is one of the best lookout points in Oia, with views across the caldera and the Aegean Sea, and out to the volcanic islands.
People head here for the sunsets and it can get very crowded. However we were here earlier in the day and it wasn’t too crowded at all.
Built in the late 15th century, the castle served as both an early warning system and a defence against the relentless pirate raids. Pirates were constantly attacking the coast, plundering crops, enslaving the local men and capturing the local women.
Standing at the watch tower today, we had a good view across the sea and we could easily imagine looking out for distant pirate ships. If one was spotted, the alarm would be raised and the residents of Oia would have time to hide their crops in underground pits and take refuge within the castle walls.
Entry to the castle is free.

The castle is a great place to get the views of Oia (perfect Insta pics). However, it gets very crowded during sunsets, specially in the peak tourist season. Go there before 10 am in the morning, or after the sunset.. to avoid the crowds. if you are looking to visit a castle, you would be disappointed. There is nothing left, except the viewing point.

The Castle of St. Nicholas is located on the point of Oia. When you walk around to the western side of Oia you get some stunning views of Oia with the caldera in the background. It is one of the best spots for panoramic photos. There are also several windmills on the back side of Oia.

Great viewing point for seeing the town and taking a lot of photos.
Gets very crowded and you want to get there at times when there is no crowd.

Easy to get to from Oia's main street. Very little left of the castle itself but great spot for views of the Caldera and the village of Oia. We visited very early in the morning to enjoy uninterrupted views and be able to wander the village and left before 9.30am when the coaches & crowds started arrived.

Easy to get to as long (as you don’t mind the crowds). Old Ruins of a castle, free, beautiful views at the tip of Oia. Worth a visit.

Go for the view but there is very little of the castle left. When I visited Oia in 1972 it was all in ruins; there was hardly an intact building after the 1956 earthquake. Of course it is very different now but you can still see some of the damaged areas. What a difference 50 years on when I visited Oia this week!
