This was a really excellent little place. We loved holding the chameleons and watching them change colors. Bello, who runs the reserve is very knowledgeable and friendly. Our whole party ages 80 to 8 enjoyed it!

I went to the Chameleon Reserve with my family, including my 8 and 10 year old daughters. Our guide, Bello, was wonderful! He spent a long time interacting with my daughters and making sure that they got to see all the chameleons. They even got to hold them and feed them crickets which they LOVED!
I highly recommend the Tazari Chameleon Reserve and our guide, Bello!

Very nice and cozy réserve for chameleon done by a young and respectful man. Good explication of the chameleon lifestyle, reproduction process and so one.
He definitely deserves to be known in order to finance his development.

Beautiful experience with the Bello Guide. The caves have lots of stalactites and stalagmites of limestone rocks with really wonderful animal shapes. Also interesting is the chameleon reserve. They are held for two months and then released. Possible to see young and old. highly recommended, total visit time one hour.

A great little place to visit in Zanzibar. The caving was good fun but would advise on some sturdy footwear as it does get a bit slippy under foot. Meeting the Chameleon's was exciting and we had great fun. Our daughter got to feed them. The guys running the function were very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and animals. A good little stop off place to visit on the north of the island.

Avoid this so-called "reserve" at all costs; it's animal cruelty. They claim to operate a conservation effort, but it's essentially a petting zoo. Throughout the day, tourists flood in, and the handlers thrust one of the five chameleons into each visitor's hand or onto their head. One visitor dropped a chameleon, and the handler simply picked it up and handed it back.
Furthermore, there's a cage with two monkeys, small and visible from all sides. Every few minutes, the handler opens the door and allows tourists to enter. The monkeys appeared stressed to me. In addition to the monkeys, there was a bushbaby in the cage. It tried to hide at the top of the cage but had no chance. Bushbabies are nocturnal and hide during the day. Unfortunately, they can't exhibit their natural instincts here.
Additionally, they have a concrete cell (approximately 1 x 1 meter) where a lizard is kept without water or soil. It's simply pathetic.
I had envisioned something entirely different - a reputable sanctuary for endangered chameleons. The handlers speak little English and cannot provide reasonable answers to questions.
For me, it's clear: Never again.

We loved this little place. Next to another interesting site: cave.
The guys were kind and explained about the life of these beautiful creatures! It’s a small place but worthwhile

Tazari Chameleon very close to Nungwi is a small demarcated garden where there are many chameleons. You get access and a lot of information for $5. A really great experience to see and touch these beautiful animals!
