Had the best two days climbing and laughing with Tony and my friend. I am a beginner and not particularly strong but I trusted Tony 100% and I quickly gained confidence. Would recommend Tony whether your pro or a beginner like me. Looking forward to the upcoming climbs I booked immediately after completing the first course. Also Montagu, what a place!

My friend and I did a 2-day introductory climbing course with Tony. Both of us were quite inexperienced (me more than her), but by the second day we were scampering up the cliff face like rock(star) spiders :)

Tony was very competent and thorough with the teaching, as well as extremely patient with us. He equipped us with the technical guidance and confidence to push ourselves, all while having a laugh and a lot of fun.

If I could give the experience more than 5 stars I would!

We went on an excellent 3 full days guided sport climb and hike in the Cederberg. The first day was the guided sport climb. We followed with an overnight "Five Peak hike". The first day we hiked up to a range with a scramble/some ropes to get to the top of two peaks. We camped on top of the range underneath the stars. The second day we scrambled/some ropes three additional peaks and hiked down. We ended the hike with beer and a great dinner at Kromrivier brewery.

It was challenging, but a lot of fun. We were able to go places that were "off the beaten path" but with little stress in terms of planning. We felt safe the entire time and the company was excellent - fun, kind, thoughtful, and welcoming group.

We were able to rent gear/camping equipment. Tony is incredibly well-organized and thorough in planning and prep, which made everything run smoothly. I will definitely call and try to arrange another trip the next time I am in the area.

As an addict of adventure in far-flung and obscure places, the Covid-19 pandemic has seriously clipped my wings. Unable to travel abroad, I decided instead to look local and use the opportunity to explore my own country. In my search for interesting trips to cool places, I was lucky enough to find Tony Lourens of Blue Mountain Adventures to provide what I was looking for.

I have now done three wonderful trips with Tony: a bespoke weekend of hiking and climbing in his charming home town of Montagu, a five-day hiking, camping and climbing trip to the very special Cederberg and a three-day trip to climb Towerkop, a very distinctive cleft rock tower with an interesting history near Ladismith, all in different corners of the Western Cape.

Each of these adventures was organised with meticulous care and with special attention to safety, particularly in relation to the rock climbing aspects. While we brought along our own breakfasts, lunches and snacks, Tony’s dinners were outstanding. Notwithstanding the mixed abilities and experience of his client groups, he managed to ensure that everyone achieved their objectives while having a thoroughly enjoyable time.

While Tony is a seasoned guide and rock climbing expert, it is his passion for the outdoors and his extensive knowledge of South Africa’s mountain ranges and climbing hubs that sets him apart. I look forward to many more adventures with him.

Recently did a trip with Tony and Blue Mountain Adventures to Towerkop in the Klein Swartberg - a challenging hike but the rewards were well worth it - stunning views, 2 nights in Nel's Cave and some climbing/scrambling to the summit (2 197m). The trip was well organised and lots of fun. As a novice climber, I appreciated Tony’s experience, clear instructions and patience! Definitely looking forward to the next trip with Blue Mountain Adventures!

My husband and I we had a trad course with Tony on the lion's head.It was great fun. We learned a lot of Tips from Tony's expert guidance. He is very responsible and professional at top of his game. We liked his sense of humour. It made our climbing with a relax mood. Fortunately, we were in Sunday hiking group which had the privilege of being lead by Tony on many Sundays hikes in the past two years, which resulted in Tony's recently published guide book entitled " Southern Peninsula Classics" many adventure routes were under taken which were very rewarding . It's a fantastic opportunity to see so much of the wonderful peninsula.

During our stay in Cape Town from Oct 2015 until Jun 2018, my wife and I have climbed, hiked and gone camping with Tony Lourens of Blue Mountains Adventures on several occasions and in different areas of the Western Cape.
Tony is a very passionate and experienced mountain guide with an impressive knowledge of the mountains of South Africa, in particular those of the Western Cape. This doesn't come unexpected being Tony the author of bestselling guidebooks for hiking, scrambling and climbing in different mountains ranges in South Africa.
He was very professional whenever he guided us on rock climbs on the steep sandstone of Table Mountains and the Cedeberg or on the slabby granite of Paarl Rocks, with safety always as top priority. Beside being a great mountain guide, Tony has a friendly and welcoming attitude, sense of humor and he always likes to share stories and anecdotes on the mountaineering history of South Africa. There was no time when we didn't enjoy together a cup of tea at the base of the crags or a cold beer at the end of a long day on the hill. And if you have a chance to go camping with Tony and his lovely wife Patsy during the weekend or for a longer vacation, you will also discover how good he is at making the braai (barbecue) and how delicious is Patsy's potjie (traditional stew slow-cooked in a cast-iron three-legged pot over the coals of a fire).
If you love living the mountains in any form and you plan to visit South Africa, I promise you have no better choice than contact Tony and ask him to guide you around to discover the beauties his country has to offer. You won't be disappointed !
