"Frontier" - Great Experience
Mar 2021
Ayanle from Las Geel Tour Site organised an excellent 3-day tour in Somaliland. He already showed great skill when I entered from Ethiopia, as Ethiopia seems to have an unpredictable border policy at the moment due to COVID-19. But Ayanle finds a feasible way. In the following days, he proves to be a very humorous and knowledgeable tour guide in a country that is not so easy to travel but offers fascinating sights such as the cave paintings of Las Geel, enchanting desert and mountain landscapes and very authentic and friendly people. In Somaliland, outside Hargeisa, you get an "escort" for your own protection (which is superbly coordinated with Alanye), so it's "Frontier" in a way, but that makes it also very special.

In a nutshell: Absolutely recommendable

Really worth a visit
May 2020 • Solo
Even if it is expensive to come here (you must hire a 4x4 with driver and a guard) it is an amazing visit. You are in the middle of the desert, the paintings are incredibly beautiful and well preserved and you have the sight for yourself!

Historic!
Feb 2020 • Solo
The history nerd in me has wanted to visit Laas Geel for awhile! My tour company Somaliland travel and tours took me here and I enjoyed every second.
The historic drawings and paintings inside not one cave but many of them.
I was the only one here so I had the entire place to myself!

The reason to visit Somaliland
Feb 2020 • Solo
The wall painting was amazing as it is an evidence of human intelligent and a way of communication that traced back to 5000 - 2000 BC. But the most stunning sight was the surrounding environment. The location is literally in the middle of nowhere, so it is so peaceful and quite. I actually spent more than 10 mins just to sit there to enjoy the view around me. Arm guard is required to visit outside Hargeisa. But no worries, tour agency will arrange one for you !

Highlight of Somaliland Trip
Jan 2020
The murals at Laas Geel are truly exceptional. The quality and quantity of the paintings are amazing. I would recommend a driver and a guide. As stated in other reviews, the actual caves are a bit off of the main road with little to no signs. My guide helped point out and explain details of the paintings, which was very helpful and made the experience much more interactive and enjoyable. The small museum is helpful to provide more context and is worth a stop. Traveling to Laas Geel was definitely a highlight in Somaliland and I highly recommend going if you're in Hargeisa.

Half day tour in Las Geel
Dec 2019
One of the most beautiful prehistoric sites in the world.
I came there for half day just to witness and observe the Las Geel and I can say that it worths a trip to this new and unusual country.

Top attraction in Somaliland
Nov 2019
I would echo all the positive comments below. Not only are the cave paintings fascinating, but the location with its wide views of the countryside and quiet isolation add greatly to the experience.
As mentioned previously, a permit is needed from a government office in Hargeisa ($25), and an armed guard is obligatory for any travel outside the City limits (I'm sure this is more to do with local employment rather than danger)
So, by the time you have your vehicle, driver, guide and guard it's not exactly a cheap excursion, but worth every dollar.
Take a picnic as there are no refreshments available, and a few sweets or chocolate for the young children minding goats who will rush over to meet your vehicle as it passes.

The main attraction of Somaliland
Mar 2019
First of all I would like to express special gratitude to Khalid Muhumed Osman and Somaliland Travel & Tourism Agency (Visit Horn of Africa) for high level of professionalism in arranging my trip to Somaliland in march 2019. During 4 days i visited: Hargeisa, Laasgeel, Berbera, Sheikh. Everything was on time, SAFE and perfect arranged from the meeting at the airport until my departure. Food, sights, people, accommodation were amazing and great!

I highly recommend this company to everyone!

Best regards, Natalya Suprun (Russia, Novosibirsk)"

Great views and history
Jul 2019 • Family
My son, father and I had a lovely trip here with driver and obligatory guard which really didn’t feel necessary at all. Staggering views, with cave rock art and a few posters in a house at the site entrance. From central Hargeisa it’s about 45 minutes on paved road and then 15 minutes on dirt road. There was a $50 ‘fee’ in total for 3 of us from someone official looking when we turned off the main road. Perhaps there are permits available in Hargeisa or perhaps it was just one of those things but the views alone are worth it.
