Laas geel has one of best preserved caveman's painting which is estimated to go back up to 9000-3000 BC. the site is newly discovered around 2002..ao it needs some basic infrustrucures like proper road, rest area, restaurants and maybe a hotel..other than that it is...More

Very impressed with the conservation of the paintings! The location is far and difficult to reach but worth the afternoon trip. Best advice: Pay your entrance fee first. The guards tried to charge our team an absurd amount of money as we were trying to...More

Super impressed with the conservation of the paintings! Although the cave location is quite remote it was well worth the 2hr drive from Hargeisa. Side note: You're technically required a permit from the government to film/photograph but the guards aren't very strict and will let...More

Series of shallow caves under granite overhangs in the Somaliland desert off the road between Hargeisa and Berbera. At first glance, this might seem to be a very inhospitable place for habitation but it is at the convergence of two wadis and a short dig...More

The best 'tourist attraction' in Africa. The cave paintings are so clear, they could've been done a week ago. 6 or 7 amazing caves which are clean and un-graffitied, worth the trip to Somaliland for and the cost of hiring a guide/security guard etc. A...More

I was prepared for the trip, but still the visit surpassed all expectations. The sites are absolutely amazing, both in content and preservation, and the sheer quantity of paintings is overwhelming. There are nine major shelters on the low rock outcrop, you need abou 3-4...More

On the road to Berbera from Hargeisa, we turned off on a dirt road and a few minutes later we were at Las Geel. We climbed over rocks and into small caverns. The petroglyph cave paintings were spectacular.

I loved this site. The rock paintings are remarkably well preserved and there's a great number of them in each cave to admire. A great half-day excursion from the city
