Pick your own apples, take a hay ride or wander the corn maze. Eat a doughnut and drink some cider or even indulge with an ice cream and see the fantastic view across the Wallkill Valley to Shawangunk Ridge. I live around the corner and I stop at Dressel's several times a week for veggies and fruit ... and those addictive doughnuts. It is a true family farm and the staff are always friendly and helpful

After visiting the farm for years, it was interesting to see a change in the offerings, including a new rude attitude on the part of the proprietor and staff. More for adults, less for children. For example, there is now wine tasting (sweet space, but not great wine), but much smaller petting zoo. Not only intolerant of children, but as a staff member was overheard to say, "Tired of city folks".
No doubt, better choices in New Paltz.

I visit Dressel Farms often for wonderful apples, sweet cider, strawberries and peaches. Oh and for the BEST view in the Hudson Valley. The view alone is worth the drive. The onsite Kettleborough Cider House is also wonderful, a great selection of hard ciders made at the farm. Very reasonable and fun tastings.

Went for ice cream at the dairy stand. The ice cream was good. However the animals in the pens were sad looking and thus took away from enjoying the farm experience.

We're sorry you feel that way, but please know that we take animal care very seriously. All of the animals are cared for daily by one of our staff- this includes feeding, watering, cleaning, etc. Most of the animals you see are on loan from a neighboring farm whose owner checks up on their well-being multiple times a week to determine if any advanced care is required. We also have a local traveling vet that does check-ups at least twice a year and is on call when any serious matters arise.
We're sorry you feel the animals appeared sad. We promise their health and happiness is always of the utmost importance.
Thank you for visiting and we hope to see you again soon!

This was a small, but fun place to visit. We were two couples with kids and it’s very kid friendly. The views are amazing, especially when looking at the fall foliage. The ciders are awesome and the flights are the way to go.

We have been coming to Dressel Farms every year to do our apple picking. Dressel is 2 hours from where we live.
This year was a bit of a let down. We parked our car and looked for a place to spread out our picnic lunch, but there weren’t many picnic tables and the ones that were there were packed with people.
We decided to have our picnic in the car. We had the unfortunate experience of having a bee fly into our car while parked. We didn’t realize at the time that bees would be a major problem that day.
We went over and purchased a $27 bag to fill 20 lbs of apples with and waited for the hay ride to take us out to the orchard. The ride seemed very long. The driver didn’t say a word to us and dropped us off at the bottom of a large hill. In past years, the drivers announced where different varieties of apples are and we could get off the hayride wherever we wanted. When the driver let us off, our only choice in that area were golden delicious and Ida Red, unless we climbed back up the steep hill. We decided to take the hayride back. The driver drove too close to the trees and one time I got slapped hard in the face with a tree branch.
We started to find some decent varieties back at the top of the hill (there were some delicious McIntosh and Empire apples there), but what made the experience close to unbearable was the bees...they were everywhere. I mean everywhere! We never had this experience at Dressel, but it really took away our fun.
We decided to go get some apple cider donuts after putting the apples in our car.
The line was so long and the bees were all over while we were on line, so unfortunately, we skipped the donuts we drove 2 hours to taste and went back to our car. When we were getting in, another bee followed us into our car and it was nerve wracking to shoo it away before leaving our parking spot!
We really used to love this farm, but this year it just wasn’t the experience we were looking forward to.

Thank you for your patronage, both this and past years. I'm sorry this years visit didn't live up to past experiences. I feel like your review deserves a few explanations:
First, the hayride was longer than before because the varieties that are ready for picking now are much further from the parking lot than others. This also means a slightly longer wait as the tractor makes its circuit, but they always return to bring you back up the hill.
Our long-time driver sadly had to have emergency surgery earlier this week, so we had to ask other employees to drive as last-minute replacements. These employees' first language is not English and they have little experience dealing with customers. This is obviously not ideal but it was our best solution on short notice. Very sorry to hear you were hit by a branch. I will certainly make sure to tell them to keep further from trees as they drive.
As for picnic tables, we have the same amount we've always had (more, actually, if you include the ones by the cider room), but on busy weekends like this one, they fill up quickly and groups tend to keep them for a long time when they get one, unfortunately. In the future, consider bringing a picnic blanket as we have many great places to set up on the ground.
You're right about the yellow jackets. We hate them as much or more than you do since we have to deal with them every day while we work. They're very active this time of year as they're drawn to sugar sources (dropped apples, cider, etc) but the number of them is no worse this year than in the past around this time. Sadly, there's not a lot we can do about them except spraying insecticides, which is obviously not a viable option.
May I suggest in the future you consider visiting earlier in the season? The varieties you mentioned (Mac and Empire) are prime for picking in mid-september, a time when we're far less busy than Columbus Day, and when yellow jackets aren't nearly as prolific. The line for donuts is much much shorter and you'd have a far easier time scoring a picnic table. Plus, Mark only had one appendix and that's gone now so it won't be an issue by next September...
Joking aside, I'm sorry this year fell short and I hope you'll give us another chance next year.
Thanks,
Tim

This is where I go to get apples and cider. I live by a few orchards and I drive right by them to go to this place. My granddaughter says it's like drinking an apple.

While this roadside stand has a variety of fruits, veggies, jams and jellies, don’t miss strawberry and apple season. Probably one of the best of both in the New Paltz area.

We're glad you had fun, but we notice you only gave us 3 out of 5. Was there something we could do better? Anything less than 5/5 hurts our rating, so we'd love to know what would achieve that in your experience.
Thanks for coming!

The farm is located just down the road from Inn at Kettleboro where we were staying, and the innkeeper had good things to say about their produce, so we stopped on our way out. We purchased some local honey, maple syrup, fresh cider donuts, a nice variety of apples, and some great-tasting peaches. The farm stand is clean and inviting and the produce looks great. Fair prices. What more can you ask for? Oh, cute goats and chickens out back. A nice stop just outside of New Paltz.

Sorry, no. We don't have the staff required to run PYO that day. The only weekdays we're open are Labor Day and Columbus Day Mondays. Sorry for the inconvenience.
