This view point over cirque Mafate is spectacular. The drive to the place is long and winding and parking can be challenging but it is one of the must-do in Reunion.
It is hard to describe the feeling when one stands in the view point with the cirque laid out in front of you. When clouds role in it is majestic as the peaks are covered with a white gown.
The viewpoint is partially accessible for wheelchair/scooter, but there is construction done which most probably make it accessible for all

Maido is a superb viewpoint over one of the three cirques on Reunion. Allow at least an hour to drive up the extremely winding hill. Large car park at the site. Visits are best early in the day before the clouds start forming in the valleys. Much of the view may be in the shade as you are facing the rising sun creating photo challenges. You can see the same valleys from the rim at Col des Boeufs on the far side of the cirque which has the advantage of the sun being behind you.

Probably the best view over Mafate, the most wild Cirque of the Island. All the mountains surrounding the Piton des Neiges present to your eyes with their majesty. If the sky is limpid you will understand the geography of Mafate, with the trekking that bring there. Astonishing.

Arrived here early enough to see the view, with a few picturesque puffs of cloud, despite the distractions of further viewpoints on the drive up. Car park quite full despite low season. Lots of picnic areas on the way down. Cloud came down after about 20 minutes - but not before lots of pics of the cirque and its villages.

Incredible view of a natural circus.
I stood there for an hour just looking at that breathtaking view
You have to be there before noon in the rainy season otherwise you will be stucked in the clouds

This is truly one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen.
Mountains, rock formations, deep valleys scattered with hill top villages...
No photo I have seen does the actual place justice.
Early morning is the time to visit and for the best photos over the Cirque de Mafate, get there just before sunrise!! There is a risk of cloud cover in the afternoon. We stayed in St Gilles and left very early. The road is narrow, winding, challenging and at times dangerous in the dark, but worth it. The colours in the clouds over the sea as it starts getting light are spectacular.
The route de Maido goes through beautiful vegetation and scenery, there are picnic and camp sites along the way.
Be warned it is COLD up there, even when it has been 30+ degrees celsius at the coast!! Be prepared!

Breathtaking views of the volcanic island is a must there. Be sure to go up early in the morning (be up by 7) as it will get cloudy and you won't see anything. Road up has a lot of turns so go by car not a bus. The view is astonishing you can't get enough of it.

Windy and tight road, don’t go off the edge... We saw one car stuck in the storm drain on the side of the road. Drive safe, well worth the drive!

Breathtaking landscape of Mafate, right in front of La Nouvelle and with superb views on the various passes. The single option for non hikers to enjoy the crater without flying! Go early as the road is a bit long and it would be too bad to arrive there after the clouds (that is often after 9 AM or so)
