Knowing Naute Dam since childhood; it was a GREAT adventure visiting again. This dam provide on a 10/10 loyalty scale water to Keetmanshoop for years and never ever failed her clients. It is a beautiful arid reservoir BUT more interesting and surprising was the agriculture development next to it. High quality dates are exported and new developments just shows the initiative and soil richness of this area. Self-catering tourist accommodation development around the dam such as at Hartdap will add value. Interesting to see in future is what the new dam development in the Fish River (old suggestion from the previous German colony) will hold for the whole South....

Apart from being an amazing expanse of water in the desert it has, below the wall, an amazing distillery, well worth stopping over.

My family (4 adults 1 Child) visited the Dam in August 2015. While the views from the general parking area of the dam wall and dam in general are spectacular, the area needs some tlc as to improve its general appearance

It looks like an oasis, the irrigation assured various agricultural activities and a tasting room next to the road where you can taste various schnaps and brandy drinks, professionally presented. The dates are of the biggest and nicest ever tasted, but is not available on the farm, but at farmstalls in the Keetmanshoop area.

The viewpoint is a lovely spot to look out over the dam. There were various water birds to observe and it makes a nice backdrop for photographs. Binoculars are definitely recommended.

Also, here very low water level. The dam was inaugurated on the 9th of September 1972, it's the third largest dam in Namibia and holds 69 million m3 water.

Me and my girl visited the dam..we drove to a gravel road to the backside of the dam, and when we reach it, we had a cold beer. We discoverd a lot of rubbish lying arround..and we've cleaned it up.
So sad that people is so disrespectfull towards nature..

Regards

The amount of water here is amazing, and the irrigation from it, watering date palm and vineyard farms is astounding. What water can do for a desert!
There is nothing much at the dam - toilets and a lookout over the wall, but driving through the water on the causeway below the dam wall, was interesting and deeper than expected. Worth stopping and going via here.

It is an interesting place to see, especially in “thirsty”land of Namibia. Huge expanse of water (brownish), some (rather recent) history behind it. For avid birders it is an opportunity to watch some water birds, but binoculars will be needed. Not much to do else.
