There are only 3 steep turns so you need a good car but apart form that, it's easy to drive. It's a nice drive, I would not say breathtaking but I'm glad I came back to Windhoek with that road; I don't think it slowed us down too much so I would recommend it.

If you're going from Windhoek to Solitaire, for instance, in the way to Sossusvlei, a nice option is to enter the C24/M47 after Rehoboth, and then take D1261 and D1275 to reach Spreetshoogte Pass. This is a beautiful mountain pass, where there is a parking place from which you can take a breathtaking view of the landscape. The pass offers a safe descent, being paved with tar for most of it. Surely, you should go slowly through the pass, not only because there are many turns, some of them quite radical, but also because you will want to absorb and enjoy the scenario. After descending the pass, the road will take you to C14/M36, close to Solitaire. When we drove these roads, May 25th 2018, road conditions were quite good, and to keep average 70Kph was not hard at all, except for the pass itself, for sure. A piece of advice then is: if you are making these ways, don't lose Spreetshoogte Pass.

Great views and amazing landscape to see. Steep, but forgiving pass which has cobblestoned paving on the steep areas. Any light vehicle will manage.

The route via Spreethoogte Pass is one of the track you can drive by to get to Solitaire from Swakopmund/Walvis Bay or in the opposite direction. Some sloper parts are already paved or becoming paved so it is safe to drive. Lower your tire pressure for more comfort and grip. On the route there are several exllent viewpoints to make nice panoramic pictures.

The road is a little tricky to navigate but perfectly possible even in a 2WD sedan car so don't be put off.

The approach from the north is a rough dirt road with some steep hills and sharp turns but as long as you take your time it is not difficult to drive.

The southern side of the pass is very steep with very sharp turns, but is fully paved.

We drove it in fine, sunny weather and had no problems in a normal 2WD car. I might be a little less certain in wet weather.

The views from the top are spectacular and worth the drive.

We chose to drive over the pass on the way from Windhoek to Solitaire. It was fine and we took some photos, but it wasn't great and while worth driving over if it's on route, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit.

A road trip to remember, specially this pass. It is worse than a roller coaster. Twisting and winding, up and down, at places so steep you can hardly believe it. Beautiful views though, and worth the drive to get to the other side.

Travelling up the pass was a great experience - towing not recommended, and definitely not recommended when going down. Stop at the top for spectacular views!
