Very interesting cultural experience to learn about the damara culture. The museum is very well organized, the damara culture really comes to live during the live workshops in several different stages.

Highly recommended!! Must-visit while in damaraland

Wonderful Cultural Experience with the Damara Peoples
Jun 2021
My husband and I visited this living museum to learn about the local communities. It was a great cultural production showing how the Damara people lived, their stories, their tools, and their pride in their culture. As we were the only visitors that day, it was depressing that so much will be lost if tourism does not return to Namibia. These people were so proud to show us their culture and so extremely nice. We loved every minute of our tour, the songs, the dancing, the creation of jewelry, their ability to use tools to make different products, their use of local plants for medicinal purposes. We hope that as tourism returns, that others will have this wonderful experience that we had, learn from their interactions, and tell others how wonderful this living museum is.

Fun, interesting, and educational!
Jul 2021
We really enjoyed our visit to Damara Living Museum. This project provides jobs to local villagers, and helps to keep the old Damara traditions alive. We did the 'Traditional village life' program, and learned about blacksmithing, herbal medicine, clothes making, jewelry making, and fire starting, and watched a song and dance performance. It was fascinating to get a small window into how people had managed to thrive in this environment for so long. And interesting to learn that many of the traditional herbal remedies are still used in modern villages -- much as in our family, we try herbal remedies before moving to pharmaceuticals (except that we don't have a personal connection with our herbals). The craft shop at the end of the tour was also outstanding. Highly recommend!

Damara Living Museum is a place where you can interactively experience the traditional culture. Together with bushmen, Damara belongs to the oldest nation in Namibia.
You will shown some bush skills, how to put a trap and make spears.
The woman will explain you which plants can be used for medecine, food or perfume.
Some traditional dances will be performed at the end of the tour.
On the way out you can buy local craftsman articles.

Sometimes cultural visits feel like human zoos (as awful as that sounds ) but here the staff are proud to show you their way of life and their culture.. they explain how and why things are done and smile genuinely .

The Damara living museum is a must place to go to get an understanding of how the Damara people of Namibia used to live. The participants are passionate in keeping their traditions alive and pass on a lot of their native traditions to the younger generations.

Was actually very interesting to go to the various stations within the village, the blacksmith portion the healer, and see ritual dances. Also has a locally crafted goods store.

A native village for tourists
Sep 2019 • Couples
This is an outdoor village set up for the tourists. The villagers come from their regular homes specifically to showcase their culture and traditions. Guides speak perfect English. They do a live tribal dance performance just like in those Africa movies. They have demonstrations as well as a souvenir corner.

Excellent and authentic
Sep 2019
What a thoroughly enjoyable experience! The staff were friendly, professional and informative. They were quite open that this was a recreation, not authentic, but it was very well done. We saw the women’s craft making, the fire maker and the medicine hut. Traditional dance was also performed. The groups of tourists were handled very well so that a manageable group was at each station. The handcrafts in the shop at the end are all made onsite with the crafts person’s name. Well done!
