Machilla Magic is a nice shopping place but very very expensive. I could get most of what they offer for half the price at informal stalls next to the road.

Firstly if you want any tips on where to find the gems of any place, have a drink at a bar and ask around. That's how we came to find out about Machilla Magic. We have a few newbies with us this year and wanted a few trinkets to take home but the road side vendors are ridiculously over priced. They see you coming and suck a random amount out of thin air. As an established shop Machilla Magic has a variety of options at great prices. I suggest you go pay a visit and support the local community that have hand made every item.

Nice place to buy souvenirs. They have all locally made stuff out of natural products. Kids loved it too.

A nice craft shop with unique African Art. Some of the crafts are a bit pricy but just to walk through the shop and appreciate the hard work going into African Art make this shop very special. Nice spots in the gardens for the men to sit and relax while the woman shop.

We stopped by on our way to the airport and were impressed by the array of crafts available and the quality. But what was most important was that the crafts were made by locals who were being mentored through the artistic process on their way to producing bigger and better things. There was significant use of recycling materials in the work, and everything was highly unique compared to crafts we’d seen around the continent. The majority of items were made from timber or palm leaves, which made it difficult for us as Australians, however there were still a number of metallic and excellent fabric items which we were able to consider. We walked away very happy with our purchases and would recommend this to anyone visiting the area to find something unique, authentic and environmentally friendly!

Machilla magic is so much worse the journey if you wanna see or buy some African fine art made of recycled materials. Luca will also warmly welcome you and be happy to introduce this fair trade project as he is one of the numerous artists working there. Merci Luca!
