So much history on this site. Well worth 30 minutes of your time if you're in the area. I've been meaning to go for ages and finally made a visit. The small car park is right next to the castle which is accessed over a...More

We went here on our way to Clun Castle, which is an English Heritage property. This has been lovingly cared for by a local trust. Look it up on YouTube as Tony Robinson digs it up for Time Team or take an iPad and watch...More

This is just a small castle, but it’s presented so well which makes it so interesting to visit. The castle now is marked with brown tourists signs and its easy to see as you approach Horton Castle village. There is a small car park and...More

Nice little stopping place for a picnic. Plenty of information to read about the ruins. You can enter the ground floor of the castle but unfortunately can't go any higher to take in the views.

This is a small keep and moat castle, off the beaten track near a small village. It has a history of part of the English Civil War, which is excellently summarised on story boards at the entrance. It is quiet, well maintained and obviously well...More

It's worth taking a minor detour if you're in the area to see this little ruin. It is free entry and parking and has really good information on the importance of Hopton Castle during the civil war. A hidden little gem and well done to...More
