A truly amazing place peaceful and pretty. It felt almost spiritual walking where the monks had lived and worked. The fact that it has not at all been commercialised is greatly to its advantage. Don't visit if you want ice cream vans and souvenir shops....More

We visited recently after being told about the ruins by a friend. It wasn't the easiest place to find and the parking is virtually non existent but the ruins were definitely worth a look. There are information boards in various places and we took some...More

This isn't remotely a 'destination' but it is worth making a detour and calling in. For us, it made an excellent meeting point. There's a defibrillator and a litter bin but no benches, no toilet and not much parking. A bit of a lottery I...More

Free and peaceful with plenty of info boards and enough of the ruins to easily see what is what. Some of the towers are in good condition. No facilities but a nice place to while away an hour.

We happened by the site by accident and I am so pleased that we did. The site is very well preserved with informative signage and wonderful photo opportunities. We explored thoroughly and really enjoyed ourselves. A real hidden gem!

Best to read about the place before you visit. You can spend an hour walking around the ruins and, if the weather is fine, another hour just relaxing on the lawns taking in the beautiful countryside and listening to the birds. Ashbourne is about 9miles...More
