Just down the road from where we were staying, lovely find. There are some boards around the site explaining what is what. It’s free to visit, there is a pull in right by it but can only fit 3 cars but is also free. Well...More

These tiny islands must contain more historic sites then anywhere else on Earth. Quite by accident I found Croxden Abbey, I saw it in my road atlas and being nearby I visited. It is amazing and is a credit to English Heritage for the way...More

We happened by the site by accident and I am so pleased that we did. The site is very well preserved with informative signage and wonderful photo opportunities. We explored thoroughly and really enjoyed ourselves. A real hidden gem!

Best to read about the place before you visit. You can spend an hour walking around the ruins and, if the weather is fine, another hour just relaxing on the lawns taking in the beautiful countryside and listening to the birds. Ashbourne is about 9miles...More

We stopped off on our way to Rocester. Parking is a small lay by by the gates. There are a few info boards, so it may be worth looking at English Heritage web site first. Think in any weather the site would look good. One...More

Part privately owned, run by the marvellous English Heritage, this is a ruined gem; or a gem of a ruin. There's not an awful lot of information about the site, but there's not a lot of the site left. But what is left is magnificent.

Situated in a remote location north west of uttoxeter in a countryside setting. The road runs through the ruin and even though there is not a designated parking area, there is room for approx 3 vehicles by the gate. There are a few information boards...More

The fact that so many Abbey's were ruined in the 16th Century is a crying shame, but then, so many ruins have been preserved, and the ruins at Croxden have enough about them to imagine what life would have been like for the monks who...More
