What a fabulous experience! Our initial trip was cancelled due to bad weather and we were so worried we wouldn’t be able to see these magnificent creatures. Being close to the end of the season, we were almost on our way back, when this huge mom & baby were spotted. They are curious creatures and came towards us and went under the boat. We couldn’t believe the size of them. Just AMAZING!!! We also saw many seals lazily floating in the waters and a few penguins. The guides had many interesting stories and are very passionate about the sea & its beautiful creatures. The sea was a bit rough but expertly navigated by Johan and you felt 100% safe. One of the benefits of using Ivanhoe is that if you don’t see the whales you get a voucher for another trip. This is unheard of on land when game viewing or on other boats we have been on. Would highly recommend it and will definitely be back! Well done to the crew and thank you for an amazing trip.

This was by far one of the best experiences of my entire life...my friend and I had no plans to go on this excursion at all today. We just strolled into the office to make an enquiry. In true Gansbaai fashion, Jason gave us just the right amount of information to convince us that we needed to join the trip out, which was leaving within the hour. Easy choice though. The entire crew, was not only beyond professional, family friendly but also was kind enough to share the wealth of knowledge they possess. They told us about our beautiful ocean and the majestic creatures in it, the coast line, the history of lighthouse at Danger point etc. and in doing so gave us a glimpse of how absolutely passionate they all are about what they do. Because of this we made new friends and feel a tad more educated :) Since we are heading toward the end of the whale season, and because nature does not subscribe to our timetables, I had no expectations other than to be swept up in an experience of just being close to nature. We had so much fun and as though nature decided to reward us, we spotted a mom and baby...Southern right whales...absolutely breathtaking, beautiful, majestic and mind blowing. One cannot witness these creatures and not be in aw of them. They graced us with a zoomed in look at them by coming right up to us and showing off just a little...reminding us of how small we are in comparison. This demands respect and we all need a reminder every now and then. That said, we all have an absolute responsibility to ensure we do not interfere with nature negatively...little things...do not litter...its murder. Us unwrapping our new tech items and forgetting to dispose of that packaging properly could kill our marine life in an unforgiving and cruel way. We have no excuse, baby steps makes a huge difference...this I say from a place of love for all life, humans included. As you may have noticed, I could say much more, but would like to say Johan, Jason and Jax THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!

The favourite part of the experience, for me, was to be on the top deck of Ivanhoe Sea Safari's, and experience the vastness of the ocean! The huge amount of water seemed to be surging with so much energy and power, and I felt truly honoured to be able to be there! Our skipper, Johan, was a mine of information, and whenever he spotted a whale, he would tell up in which direction to look, and then slow the boat down to idle and approach the whale very cautiously..... He was most respectful, and then cut the engines,to allow the whales to come closer to us for inspection, without any danger, if they so wished. We also saw a few seals swimming around. We saw 3 mother and calf pairs with one or two whales on the outskirts of the pairs. We saw them breach, wave their tails, roll over showing us their flippers and calosities, spy hopping and mother and calf swimming so closely side by side it was all breath taking!! I can definately recommend a trip on Ivanhoe Sea Safari's with Jax Bath, a very passionate and well-informed guide!

This was one of the most memorable and exquisite things I have ever done. Incredible sightings of southern right whales, even some breaches at the end!! Great and informations guides. Really good at sighting and letting you know where to look and when and they get as excited as we do! Highly recommended. They communicated with us the whole way from booking, to rescheduling due to upcoming bad weather up until the launch.
