About
Doornkraal has always had horses. We have relied on them for the many generations and the 140 years that this farm has been in care of the Le Roux family. And although horses are not used any more in the daily farming activities, they remain loved and trusted companions. We highly value a good temperament, willingness and kindness towards people in a riding horse. Therefor DOORNKRAAL HORSES are carefully selected from various bloodlines of South African horses that was bred for local conditions - the legendary Cape Riding Horse, Boerperd and Nooitgedachter and known for their outstanding temperament, versatility, riding comfort and sure-footedness. The routes were selected to introduce riders to the breathtaking and unspoilt Klein Karoo landscape. En route picnics or sundowner drinks & snacks can be arranged. Duration of rides are from 1½ hours to multi day guided adventures. We accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels. What are you waiting for?

Setting out with seven friends, we experienced an extraordinary week on horseback, traveling through valleys and mountains across the Karoo, on the backs of horses admirable for their courage, robustness and good character. Our sleeping places were comfortable and the welcome from the owners was always enthusiastic when they saw us disembark with our horses for which large meadows were available. What a joy to see them in freedom rolling around again and again in the cool of the evening. The evenings punctuated by barbecues and delicious meals were very entertaining. Traveling with Célia, our organizer, is a pleasure, she has so much to give and teach us and above all she laughs all the time!!! Not to be missed if you love nature and animals.

Our group enjoyed a fabulous 6-day Klein Karoo to Coast trail with Celia and her team at Klein Karoo Horse Adventures! Breathtaking scenary, true South African hospitality and the most wonderful horses made it an experience never to forget. We stayed at the lovely family farm the first night. Camping the second night was a lot of fun and being off the grid made it extra special. Thereafter comfortable and welcoming lodges until our final destination on the beach at Glentana. I highly recommend Klein Karoo Horse Adventures!

Absolutely stunning 6 days 120 km on the horse! Mind-blowing experince, lot of fun, lot of gallop. It was the best I have even done on a horse! Thank you, Celia!

We had an amazing morning riding horses, followed by a delicious lunch of regional dishes made from locally grown produce.
The team at Klein Karoo were able to provide a horse riding experience tailored for our skill level, and full of entertaining facts about the area.
I would highly recommend this experience, and would love to do it again.

Our family of 4 had the best day with Celia and her horses. We had no previous experience but she took us on a trial ride up the mountains It was amazing!!!!

This is the best ride I've been on in years. Celia tailored the challenge level to the skill of the riders, so it was perfect: both relaxing and as challenging as we wanted. Her relaxed and competent style meant we could all relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside. She even let me bring my dog, to train her to be horse-aware. I couldn't have enjoyed myself more. Thank you Celia, I will be back.

We had a marvelous weekend in De Rust and the horseriding definitely was the highlight. Fantastic fun for the whole family with views of the Klein Karoo to die for.

The horses are gentle, obedient and respond so well. The terrain and views are amazing. Big mountain backdrops, lovely farmlands, hills and valleys and natural bush and veld. Professionally handled by the Klein Karoo Horse Adventures group, who are friendly and patient.

We went on a two hours sunset ride at Doornkraal Farm located close to De Rust. The ride guided by Celia was just awesome! The landscape around Doornkraal is stunning and the horses are calm and a pleasure to ride. We were in a group of six with some experienced riders and beginners like ourselves. Celia made sure everyone had fun, letting the more experienced riders take their horses for a gallop on some stretches. The additionally booked sundowner drinks & snacks were also superb! It was a truly unique experience which you should not miss when staying in De Rust. Highly recommended! Thank you Celia!

This really goes down as one of my favourite rides, what an incredible experience! I looked at another company in the area and I'm so pleased I went with 2Doorn, it was a little more expensive but really worth every penny. Some rides can feel very generic and routine, this was nothing of the sort.
The whole thing was so well organised and professional, great communication and catered to what I wanted - from length and time of the ride and happy to book even though it was just me.
I booked a 2 hour ride which was just perfect, It rained that day and I was preparing to be disappointed but received a call to say that if I didn't mind the rain then the ride would go on without any problems from their side, which I really appreciated. Celia took me out and what a wonderful woman to share a beautiful ride with - so fun and interesting and clearly knows exactly what's what! I felt safe and comfortable and my horse (Dancer) was an absolute dream, very well trained and very responsive, not to mention perfectly equipped for the terrain.
The ride itself was just magical, a great mix of adventurous single track terrain, some bundu bashing where we felt like it, and some fantastic canter strips in between on the softer ground. All the tack was of top quality and the thoughtful touches really went so far, Celia had packed a flask of sweet wine into my saddle bag should I fancy a little heart warmer - went down a treat!
The views were beautiful, we cantered up to the top of a koppie and then dismounted to enjoy the view. Her dog Patat accompanied us all the way and she was just lovely. Celia was kind enough to take some lovely pics of me for me, as we went along. All in all I really felt like Celia and her team had made such an effort to ensure I had a memorable time and catered the experience to my needs. All topped off by a delicious cup of piping hot coffee back at the stables. Cannot recommend enough! I'd definitely go again next time I'm in the area.
