What a truly wonderful and well kept little museum. Well laid out and most informative with excellent examples of pioneer history as well as how Clanwilliam (or Augsburg) was built on the concept of a healthy tea.
Very helpful assistants, great old photos, videos, jail cells - well worth the R30pp entry. Open weekdays.

This was an old jail. The space has been fully utilised to tell the story of the building of the local dams, the making of Rooibos tea, life and times of the pioneers in previous centuries, old equipment and tools, dentists and doctors equipment, early mining and farming.

The scenes are so life- like I jumped, thinking I had entered a room of real people.

Well worth an hour or so of your time. It costs a massive R10 to get in.

PS It is right opposite the tourist bureau manned by Esther, who is a mine of information

We spent a good hr plus at the museum and were made to feel very welcome. There is a lot of work being done around several of the displays- found the Rooibos and Wuppertal displays of very good quality with well researched content.
There is a stunning quilt depicting the history of the area .The museum clearly has some dedicated contributors to their displays.
Well worth a look - a venue with excellent further development potential.

We spent an hour taking in the history of Clanwilliam & surrounding area in this small museum situated in the old jail. Whilst interesting & with some tools & memrobilia etc of the era it did look a little tired.

We were the only visitors on the public holiday, but Rosetta was welcoming, informative and gave an excellent first hand account of recent history.

Little museum that explains the history of the area - tea, show making, agriculture. Lovely pictures of Clamwilliam from the past. A very enjoyable hour

An excellent visit way beyond our expectations. The museum guide Herschil Pieterse diligently set the context of the museum into the history of Clanwilliam and made the exhibits come live through his own personal family knowledge and experience.

Pretty fudging cool, not at all what I expected as it's called "Die ou tronk" museum, it's definitely inside the old prison, but it has more history than just that of the prison.

The museum closes at 12h00 on a Saturday. There is so many things to do, that you don't get to everything. I was very dissapionted not to be able to visit.
