Amazing walk
Apr 2021
I had a walk around the dam.
The views from the edge of the dam, especially in the morning, ar amazing.
There are a few fishermen you can talk with and which make great picture opportunities.
It is very safe and the trails are marked...

Amazing views for all

What a lovely way to spend a morning, hiking around the damn. My four kids ranging in age from 3 - 12 were all able to complete the walk with ease and no special hiking equipment is required, just comfy shoes.

Really worthwhile

Easy, lovely hike + continuing improvements
Feb 2020
I love this place and it's always on my Dullstroom todo list. It's an easy hike up to a viewpoint of the town and the trail is maintained.

The rec centre is continuing to improve and develop and I was pleasantly surprised to see it open for a nice cool ice tea after our walk.

If you're staying in Dullstroom and want a bit of nature that's not necessarily trout fishing (though you can do that here too), this is the place to stop off. Enjoy the outdoors, relax, spend the night or enjoying the growing commitment to community activities.

Pristine waters lovely walks
Feb 2020
We visited Dullstroom on the Dam primarily to participate in the Park Run on Saturday morning. What a wonderful surprise. We were welcomed by two great big white horses who were roaming free and grazing on the grounds. There are sheep that are in a pen. The Run/walk around the dam is 2.5km. The facilities like showers and toilets were clean. After Park run we had tea & coffee and you can also enjoy an Omelette.
The campsites are mostly flat with some shade but not a lot of shade. There are also self catering cottages on site which we did not inspect but expect they would be clean. The area would work well for hiking and mountain biking. Our next visit will ensure we camp and stay longer to further explore the area

Quaint countryside feel
Apr 2019 • Couples
Dullstroom on the dam is a short 7-10 min walk from the main market area . It’s also a fishing /camping space besides being a dam surrounded by a hill to trek . It’s picturesque because of the landscape and the horses , sheep add to its countryside charm ! It has a cute club like place in the middle which seems to be deserted whenever we visited but is lovely and adds that old world charm . One can spend hours overlooking the dam or taking the trek or perhaps a horseride with the stable there . It’s absolutely safe and pet friendly as we saw many people with their pets there. You can carry some food if you’d like to spend the day . Definitely our chosen spot for early mornings in Dullstroom !

Magic moments in Dullstroom on the Dam

A super lovely place in pure nature with super friendly hosts. You find all you need, regardless if you like to use your tent, camper or like to stay in one of the beautiful solid cottages located close to the water.

Camping disaster.
Nov 2018 • Family
This was the second time we visited this resort. The first time went very well. We only camped one night. The stand had running water, electricity and a barbecue grid. Ablution facilities more than adequate. The area is also very safe and secure.

We recommended it to our family, who in return joined us the second time. This time we were in a caravan and our family in a tent next to us. Some friends came to visit for dinner. It was freezing cold and they left soon after eating.

All left over food were packed away in brand new stainless steel dishes. The dirty cutlery were left in our wash-up stand. Being so terribly cold we were in a hurry to get to bed and we left our stuff on a ledge opening out to our outside kitchen.

In the early morning, I woke with a crashing sound. When I went outside everything was trashed. The wash-up stand lay capsized, all my glasses broken. My stainless steel dishes full off dents and food shattered everywhere. Three horses stood there grazing away on our leftovers.

We saw a note in side the ablution facility warning us to put the trash in the bins provided. Because of the naughty brown pony. Which we did. Not thinking that they would actually trash our place after we packed everything away.

Well, after that, came the chickens and geese. Geese chasing and biting the kids, Chickens scavenging for food and poo accumulating underneath your shoes. It just wasn't fun anymore.

I can't understand, If they know the ponies are being naughty, Why not camp them in at night?

The geese stayed in the shade right in front of the door to the ablution. One couldn't go to the loo without getting nabbed by a geese or kicked by a rooster.

We left prematurely, with a lot of broken glasses, damaged Stainless steel containers and camping chairs covered with chicken poo.

Hi Sandy We regret your bad experience. The naughty horse who caused the damage has since been kept away from the camping area. We have also given the chickens and geese away. We hope to see you back again to have a repeat of your first experience here and not the unpleasant one on your last visit.

Beautiful hike with stunning views

Park at the parking lot or walk there from the centre of Dullstroom. There are two routes up the ridge to the beacon - steep route up the steps on the far side of the dam (on the Dullstroom side), or there are two contour paths from the other side of the ridge. It is an easy trail run for the moderately fit or an easy walk. Would take 45mins to hike up. I did a 10km round trip trail run.

Amazed by the beauty
Aug 2018 • Couples
Decided to do the Parkrun on the Saturday morning. Very well signed posted in the main street. Vey easy to find.
Very big dam with trout fishing been the main attraction . I did see so people camping there . Has some horses and beautiful runs and walks you can do along the property. Been winter a 1 degree everything is brown. Rest rooms there and keeping with the area, were clean and sufficient. What you would think of. Out of the town but 5 min drive from the centre.
