We found the farm and facilities to be run down and not well maintained. After our hike, everything was locked up and no one in sight.

Such a lovely Wine farm!
We came here as a family, on a rainy day in August. The hosts are so nice, friendly and very hospitable. The food offered during the tasting is delicious! The freshly baked bread and muffins were scrumptious!
They also make the preserves themselves. Hearing the stories behind each wine was also such a nice treat.
It was a wonderful trip out! It would’ve been nice to come when it was sunny, perhaps we could have seen more of the farm. But it was extremely cozy and relaxing with the rain.
Dan is a fantastic host! It was really great just chatting to him and learning more about the farm and the family history.
There was also this adorable little lamb in the house! Sooo cute!
Definitely a Wine farm I would recommend to visit!

Went for a Sunday hike on the Welvanpas hiking trail. It was a really great trail to walk and had some fun obstacles. It was nice to sit and rest at the waterfall. The great thing is that you are under the trees the most of the time so you don't have to worry about sun burn. Afterwards we went for the wine tasting. They have some really unique wines and you can taste the differences. Really nice place to visit.

Visited during a Wine Walk of the area for lunch. Oh my goodness! The food was fantastic. Retha is a whiz with the food. The food was paired with wines from the farm, and we were entertained with stories about how the wines were named and the history of the family. (who are part of the original pioneers of the interior of SA, Piet Retief.)
We spent more time talking and listening to the stories than our guides would have preferred. It was definitely an experience.
I know that there are bike trails that start from the farm as well, that were busy.

We recently did a walking tour of several wine estates around the Wellington area in the Western Cape . One of the stops was the Welvanpas estate.
Dan Retief the owner , who is a direct descendant of the Voortrekker Piet Retief hosted our party . He gave us a most interesting and witty account of how the farm came to being and of his Voortrekker forefathers.
As well as this his lovely wife served the most amazing boboti for lunch.
His wines are also very good and affordable, particularly his reds.
Do you yourself a favor and visit this small most interesting estate on your next trip to the Winelands!

A group of us, pre-organised, had occasion to spend a lunch time of wine tasting, story telling and delicious food at Welvanpas today. Run by a husband and wife team, Dan & Retha Retief. A very sweet spot. The Coffee Bar, just big enough for 20 people. Lovely vibe a very dear and creative space.
We were served Retha's delicious warm home made bread, served with their really good home made Olive Oil, as we all tasted the easy drinking wine, whilst Dan regailed delightful family stories of yester-year(the farm has been going since the 1700's) as we tasted their wines (Chardonnay and Revival Red were our favourites),
The Valley is spectacular, there are walks and hikes to enjoy. It is a small family farm & so I think they appreciate pre-booking for their meals and activities. They have a lovely little shop filled with delicious home made "goodies".
Olives from the farm, chutneys, Olive Oil, and all sorts of delicious items to buy. A really special place to stop over and taste and try. (Book ahead as it is a small family concern). There are about 2 kilometres of sand road just before arriving at their farm.

We hiked on the Welvanpas farm. It is not a very long or difficult hike, but it has some stunning views. Waterfall at the end of the long route will be a great place to cool off after the hike on a warm day. The hiking trail is also quite well maintained.

We popped in to the little shop having visited it once before ... the owner most unfriendly .. did not even get off his chair ..told us he was busy .. ? Bought a few bottles of jams and left .. won't bother going again.

stop here on for some great wine and a great chat. Felt like I was back in holland with the menu being written in Afrikans. This estate has been in the same family for years and Dan is more than happy to talk about the history and his wines. I visit I will remember for some time. The map position was wrong at the time of writing this and it is just beyond the Dunstone Estate on the Bolvei Road
