The farm has been the jewel of the Bovlei valley for three centuries and has had many owners. The current farm dates from 1993 with the decision to grow high quality wine grapes. The first vines were planted in 1995. Since the present owners acquired it in 2003, they have built a winery, tasting room and storage complex. In 2005, the farm was given Estate status.

Hidden? Yes, at the top of a verdant valley, reached down a dusty road past ancient farmhouses. Finally green paddocks, with horses clearly in fine fettle, to park under a shade of packed sticks. A short walk uphill, into a courtyard filled with tables and sun umbrellas, and a long hall down one side. In the hall were several tables... More

The wine estate is a hidden treasure with great wines, enjoy the wine tasting and do the walk. There is no big show - it is about the wine. The wines are great and price is more than reasonable.

This is a great place to visit and try wines whilst eating and enjoying the fantastic views.Even after the fires which have scorched the adjacent mountains almost to the edge of the estate the environment is tranquil and refreshing and a walk around the vineyards will reveal the care lavished on the grapes. Then try the wines and ask advice... More

Down a long dirt track, Doolhof sits in beautiful grounds in it's own tranquil valley. Great wines to taste (been a fan for a few years now and occasionally find them in the UK so to do their wine tasting was a must when in Wellington). Nature walks, brick ground "doolhoff", plenty of room for kids to run off steam

We only had a tasting but there was a wide selection and all wines were available at a competitive price for a tasting. Beautiful setting and accommodation looked very good. Nice choice of walks by the river or through the vineyards with dramatic scenario. Part of the charm is the access over an unmade road for several kilometres.

Great wines, accompanied with delicious platters. We tried 5 white wines and 5 red wines. It was difficult to choose which to buy. It is in a great location. Staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

We really enjoyed the packed 3 course picnic lunch.. wraps with smoked chicken and the kids even grabbed my meatballs before I could get to them... the cheese selection was superb with the biscuits and fresh bread. The chocolate brownies were on the sweet side but you are also allowed to bring your juices and fruit which made up for... More

Great wine tasting experience. The staff were pleasant to talk with providing a history of the winery and discussions on the various wines we were tasting. This was a location off the hard top road and a little remote. Well worth the trip. I left with several bottles of Lady in Red!
