We recently (April, 2022) enjoyed a 6-day wild life safari in the African bush. We’re happy to share our impressions of this wonderful experience, especially with anyone planning or considering something similar.
All arrangements, bookings, etc. were made through Greatest Africa. Vanessa Walker was our personal travel consultant, and she provided exceptional service and assistance every step of the way!
We spent 3 nights each at Motswari Lodge and Kapama Buffalo Camp. These are private game parks, separate and independent, located in the greater Kruger National Park area.
Both provided first class service overall, and are absolutely 5 star destinations in every respect. Following comments apply to both/either of these Camps.
Food. Tasty, nutritious, ethnic/local and international cuisines. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
Drinks. Wide selection of local juices, wines, beers, and local/international spirits.
Meals were served in beautiful boma type environment.
Game drives. Each safari vehicle (customized Land Rovers) allowed a maximum of 6 guests per vehicle, and was staffed with 2 knowledgeable and experienced rangers/trackers. Each drive (2 per day) was approx 3 hours’ duration, including early morning drives (with coffee and rusks) and sunset drives (with tasty snacks and sundowner drinks, each day an impromptu stop somewhere romantic or idyllic, to watch the sun set over the African horizon.) There are never guarantees when it comes to game spotting, but we were very fortunate to see the Big 5, as well as many other animal species, on numerous occasions. Thank you to the very professional “bush” staff.
Accommodation. Private, secluded, stand-alone, suites (some tented type, and others rigid structures, but all glamping at its best) all with AC, king sized beds, luxury indoor/outdoor bathrooms, mostly thatched roofs and often built in African, rondavel style architecture.
We could ramble on and on describing all the features. But, in summary, this was a memory making experience. Without any doubt our recommendation is to go ahead, indulge yourself, it’s worth every penny spent. In

Richard’s knowledge and passion came through all the time on this wonderful all day family group tour of the Stellenbosch vineyards. He was fun, friendly and engaging, and a really delightful host to what was a perfect introduction to numerous Cape wines.
I thoroughly recommend Richard to anyone who enjoys their wines, and with over 25 years of experience in the wine business, his personal interest and contacts added hugely to the overall experience.

We chose Richard and this wine tour after reading the great reviews and we were not disappointed. I contacted Richard directly and explained what we were looking to do and he arrange the day including lunch. Richard met us at our hotel in Cape Town and then took us on a quick tour of the city on our way to our first winery. His knowledge of the history was very interesting. Richard actually produces his own wine, so he has an excellent insights on the different ways of producing wine and he knows a lot of owners of the wineries. As a result we had a more personal experience, which made the day unique. We started by visiting a wine farm in Constantia and then headed towards the region of Stellenbosch to visit a further two, prior to a having a delicious lunch at 96 Winery Road Restaurant (owned by wine producers) and we then visited a couple more producers in the afternoon. All of the wine we tasted was amazing and we ended up buying 5 bottles. Richard also took us on tours of some of the wineries and talked us through the history which was very interesting. It was a full day and it was great fun. I would highly recommend Richard, the day was a lot more than just tasting great wine.

I worked with Vanessa and was so greatfull for her personal touch! All communication was as if I was talking to a friend. She followed through with all our needs, budget and crazy flexable schedule! I would recommend anyone using her or Richard as its not easy planning an African Safari from the states and being able to chat with these experts was so helpful! Thanks Vanessa!!!

We were picked up by Richard Hilton and his driver from our villa in Camps Bay. There were ten of us in the group and this tour turned out to be the highlight of our week! As an added bonus we had a tour of Cape Town en route to Stellenbosch, and learned a lot about the history of the region in the process. Richard is a great enthusiast and very knowledgeable to boot.
On our wine tour we visited Klein Constantia and then Meerlust. Both quite different but very hospitable and generous with the tasting! We then enjoyed a fabulous al fresco lunch at 96 Winery Road - finest fillet pan fried in a delicious peppercorn sauce served with chips coated in Parmesan and olive oil. I can taste it now! After lunch we visited the beautiful grounds at Vergelegen and completed another wine tasting of their very fine vintages. On the way home we had a tour round Somerset West and the beautiful properties there.
All in all, a fabulous day out. We tend to do our own thing and shun tours but I can wholeheartedly recommend Greatest Africa Private Wine Day Tours

If there is only one trip that you do while in Cape Town this should be the one. Richard's knowledge of wine is extensive. His considerable work experience in European vineyards, combined with his love for Cape Town, and South Africa's wine industry all combines into making this a very interesting day out. Not only are you guided through the intricacies of some of South Africa's most exciting working vineyard but you are done so by a guide who is a talented winemaker in his own right. One of his most recent wines won the top accolade (5 Stars) in the 2014 John Platter guide. If you are fortunate you can ask to taste some of his own wine over lunch - something that I would highly recommend. All in all a fabulous experience. Thank you.

Richard took my husband and me on a day tour of the vineyards and it was really fantastic from start to finish. He is so knowledgeable about the history of the area, about the wines and the homesteads you visit, and shares this knowledge freely in a genuinely engaging way throughout the tour. We tasted so many unbelievable wines and managed to purchase several excellent ones and also did an olive oil tasting which was an unexpected bonus! We had a delicious lunch along the way, and just generally enjoyed Richard's company the whole day. Highly recommended, you won't find a better way to experience the beautiful Cape vineyards than this.

My wife, friend, and I were visiting from the US this past week and got a last minute recommendation to go on a tour with Richard from another friend from the US who had toured with him in the past. We were all very happy we took the advice and booked a one day wine tour with Richard. Richard is an expat from England who has lived in the Stellenbosch area for a couple decades now and knows the area exceptionally well. He brings his English charm and local knowledge to his tours which is great. He is also not only a wine expert, but a wine producer himself and has private label wines that he ferments and sells (btw they are excellent as well and you should taste his Viognier). It is the rare occasion that you can get a tour from an actual wine maker and we are thankful we seized the opportunity. We learned a great deal about wines as well as the Stellenbosch and greater Cape area. Definitely a must do tour!

Amazing chance to see, taste and learn. Richard gave us his personal view into the history and stellar present of South African wine. From the individually selected wineries to the delicious lunch to his deep knowledge of the region it was all fantastic. Even our teenage kids enjoyed seeing the beautiful area - maybe especially since Richard made sure they got to see animals (adorable dogs and amazing cheetahs). Thank you for a fantastic visit. Highly recommend Richard and team at Greatest Africa to anyone visiting.
