Wine tasting and blending once again at Excelsior...
We were staying at Excelsior Manor guesthouse for 4 nights and so a gentle walk after returning from a day's activities was the right thing to do. Pleasant, informative staff, tasting the estate wines and then being coached through to blending our individual bottle of wine, just to our taste. Fun experience and its amazing when comparing our results to our previous blending here in 2016- tastes do change.

Best Experience and value for money.
This was one of my book trips. We are greeted by the friendliest staff members upon our arrival. Everything was well-organized and completed on time. The food was delicious. The greatest cuisine I've ever had. The hiking trail was fascinating, and they kept our glasses full of great wine. This is excellent value for money. This journey will be repeated.

    Best Ever Wine Walk
We have just completed the Wine Walk! What an amazing time was had by all! We were a group of 17 friends. The guesthouse was fantastic, as were all the meals. Kirsten, who runs the guesthouse is an amazing person. So easy to deal with and nothing is a problem! She made our stay so special. James the headwaiter was wonderful. So friendly with the best smile and so dedicated! Jaco , our guide for the 4 days was fabulous! Great sense of humour and very informative. Excelsior is a beautiful farm and the entire area has the most amazing views. All the wine farms we visited were fantastic. We had olive oil tastings and a succulent farm visit as well as visiting a lavender farm with superb products. The entire group could not rave enough about the unbelievably beautiful walk! We are truly blessed to have these hikes in SA.

This is a review written on reflection of an experience we had long planned. The 3-day wine walk was initially Covid derailed, then by friends who either exercised but did not drink, or loved wine but did not exercise!
Everything was even better than anticipated. The 3 nights accommodation, food and attention to detail afforded us from staff at Excelsior Manor House were all excellent.
The itinerary was thoughtfully planned encompassing 7 fantastic wineries, a river crossing picnic, a lavender farm, an olive farm and an evening blending our own wine. The weather played along too and everything fell seamlessly into place. All was set out ready and welcoming at each venue upon our arrival. We were never kept waiting. We were treated to wine tastings & food pairings whilst simultaneously getting first-hand information on the location and the produce from people who have a true passion for what they do.
Very professional yet not impersonal - this was a carefully crafted and organised undertaking from Excelsior that ensured we were so well taken care of. A thank-you needs to be extended to everyone who made this such a success.
Highly recommended, one must book early - word of mouth ensures this activity is booked up well in advance. That says it all!
Other wine walks are offered in the area but they are not really comparable to this flagship one.
We'd love to do it again!

Service not good. After we received our food we waited another hour to get service and my husband at the end went to fetch wine himself. Cheese platter for 2 poor. 1 small bread which was not a roosterbrood as advertised. Humus was foul. Ambience though is nice and pieceful and wine is good. Hopefully when we visit again the service will be better.

Our recent visit to this estate was at the invitation of friends who had invited us to join them for lunch.
This turned out to be a disappointment for us and them - the fare that is offered reads better than it looks or tastes, and the service is on the slow side of good. We are in no hurry to get back to their restaurant/bistro.
The wine tasting venue is a different matter altogether, being situated in it’s own building overlooking a pleasant dam. They have a good range of wines to taste and buy, but had sold out on some of the white’s, and their rose, so we were a bit disappointed - we had especially wanted to taste the rose, which we have been told is top notch. Another visit is on the cards to taste the rose - but no dining this time!

EXCELSIOR WINE ESTATE - ROBERTSON. The De Wet family have farmed at this estate in the Robertson valley since 1859. The estate offers wine tasting, a wine blending and bottling experience, light meals from the deli and the option of a stay over at the guesthouse. The blending and bottling experience was fun. You have the option to blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz then bottle and label it too 😁The Excelsior team are friendly and helpful and guide you through the whole experience. #gallivantwithg

Our winetasting was pritty avarage at the end of the day. Our experience at the Deli was very surprising. Chad our chef and waiter introduce me to his personal meal the Beef and redwine Pie. I expected just another pie with redwine source. After a few minutes come this surprising plate with homemade beef pie, philo pastry anf homemade beetroot vegetables. The taste is out of this world. Thanks to Chad and the Exelsior Deli personel to make this meal so great.
