An imposing landmark!

Undoubtably, the focal point of the town is the Dutch Reformed Church, with the main road, "Church St" being named after it. The cornerstone for this building was laid in Nov 1900, and now has been declared a Provincial Heritage site. The Oudtshoorn based architect, George Wallis, was responsible for designing quite a few Karoo churches, but this particular one with its classic cruciform layout, has pleasingly graceful lines. The wrought iron fencing is masterfully designed to reflect the decorative detail of the building itself. The interior is impressive, with the original organ, imported from the UK, still working. This pristinely maintained church, set in equally beautiful gardens, is well worth a visit.
