- Jo KWorcester, United Kingdom9,023 contributionsLovely stop on the vineyard trailOn the tram 🚃 tour. It was busy on a February Saturday so suggest a different day. Really beautiful vineyard. Lots of nice art items inside the shop and out. Oyster 🦪 bar if you like them.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 February 2024
- CriticDubai, United Arab Emirates138 contributionsLovely lunch experience in the gardenThis is a beautiful place to stop for lunch. The food quality was excellent and we all enjoyed our salads (my wife's beetroot salad was fantastic) and the setting lovely with spaciously laid out tables and a kids play area for the little ones. I had a Caesar Salad which was good. The setting is beautiful and worth the stopVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024
- Alinelauda133 contributionsWorth the visitWe had planned other wineries that were closed on the day of our visit. We went for it out of “luck”. Great service. Wines - Flagship tasting - great. Beautiful space, with works of art. There's a beautiful bistro too but we didn't go. I recommend.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 March 2024
- rdubbs08Edmond, Oklahoma8,187 contributionsChic & ElegantGrande Provence exceeded our expectations - the entire property is chic & elegant. We spent the day doing the pink line and this was our 4th winery. There is art throughout to look at, a playground for the kids, oyster bar, plenty of wine and live music on the day we were there. It was just perfect!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 April 2024
- Hemel1Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom231 contributionsExcellent lunch stopThe second stop on our Wine Tram excursion and highly rated. we had a wine tasting with oysters, a very pleasant late morning snack. We had already booked a table at the main restaurant for lunch, we sat outside in the courtyard enjoying excellent food, service and more wine. A very pleasant interlude. There is also a number of sculptures in the grounds and art on display. I'd certainly recommend this stop on the Wine Tram or even a visit if staying in Franschhoek.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 November 2024
- Sophie R11 contributionsWonderful stayWe stayed at Grande Provence in one for their cottages - it was absolutely fabulous but what set it apart was how well looked after we were by Jessie and Wellington. Breakfast each morning was a delight and Wellington was always about to help with anything that came up. Big shout out to the whole team and we would definitely book againVisited January 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 January 2025
- KarrstPretoria, South Africa4,257 contributionsExcellent wine tasting in a wonderful Cape Dutch setting. This was our first stop on our Wine Tram tour so we were not sure what to expect. Having been picked up at the Tram Station by a Tractor and carriage we were transported to the Farm. We need not have had any concerns as we were taken to the tasting area where we were met and given the choice of tatsings available. This is an out door area under the shade of some magnificent old trees. The wine Tasting was professionally done. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained each wine for us. The tasting was done so efficiently we had time to place our order and spend some time looking around the splendid gardens and galley. This was probably the best o the tastings we did that day and well worth a visit either on the Tram or individually.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 February 2025
- ginacolada42 contributionsThe Perfect Birthday Lunch .We had plumped for my birthday luch here as part of the Franshhoek Wine tram experience and I’m so glad we did . It’s a cliche to say the pictures do not do it justice but you really have to go ! Walking through the grounds was lovely , it’s so picturesque and the art gallery was amazing. We ate lunch in the bistro and it was delicious, I’m still rhapsodising about my lamb cutlets . The staff who attended to us were really attentive and made me feel special on my big day , the service was top notch . Recommended !Visited February 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 February 2025

Grande Provence Wine Estate has over a 325-year history. Nestled in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in South Africa’s Western Cape, there are lush vines spread across 47 acres. Rolling vistas frame the valley floor and heighten the drama of the rugged mountains beyond. This is heartland South African Wine Country at its very finest. I enjoyed their Angels Tears Tasting which was, AT Sauvignon Blanc, AT Muscat, AT Rosé, AT Merlot/Cab Red Blend, and a Nougat Pairing.

We drove to the 1st station and spent almost the whole day there. Locals take blankets and picnic baskets with them, but the cafe and restaurant will also feed you very tasty food. And get drunk, of course. Tables for both large and small companies. The service takes a long time, but the atmosphere is conducive to leisurely waiting. Very good playground for children. There is a grill, oysters, and live music nearby. A little further there is an interesting exhibition of contemporary art. Everyone will find a corner of their interests. Lots of shade from trees.

Grand Provence is an iconic wine farm located in the Franschhoek valley. We visited as part of the Franschhoek Wine Tram (yellow route) experience, and I loved that we got to take a tractor ride from the train platform through the vineyards to the cellar door (seating area is covered for those windy/rainy days). The Vineyard has the main tasting area (inside) with some outside seating options under the big trees as well. Close to the tasting area there is also a restaurant, as well as an art gallery. As it was a beautiful day and we were a very large group we sat outside and got to experience their tasty wines, including the farms natural beauty, as well as art pieces spread around the gardens. It is also good to note that they have a big jungle-gym play area for the kids.

So disappointing. Third time (first being the best) dining there, but I’ll think twice about spending thousands of Rands in a place that charges high prices but has lost interest in serving excellent food. Whether they’ve gotten complacent or changed chefs. I don’t know, but the huge dip in standards ruined our special occasion evening.
For example, from their set ‘gourmet’ menu - the starter (yellow tail) was chewy and most unpleasant tasting, The beef was luke warm with barely any jus - and the deserts only okay. The service petered off half way through - with orders getting mixed up. By the end we’d dearly wished we had chosen somewhere else - like Protégé, whose set menu is a similar price. The only thing in common !!

Visited on the wine tram...we did the wine tasting and had a charcuterie platter. This was expensive and there was a large party going on which meant we struggled to hear our wine expert
I found the wines disappointing and we didnt purchase any.
Amazing art work in the gardens but overall not a great wine tasting experience.

We visited Grand Provence earlier this month. It was beautiful, quiet, serene and pleasant. We tried the desert wines and the cheese platter. They had a good variety to offer.
The art sculptures were spread over the whole area and worth looking 👀

We did the grey wine tram tour and decided to book lunch here, but to be honest was the worst stop along the way. We booked for lunch and they weren’t serving 70% of the menu, because of load shedding but failed to tell us in advance when we booked a month in advance vs. Other stops that were serving lunch. As we were there we decided on the cheese / meat selection and it was firstly distinctively poor with little flavour and secondly overpriced (£20, which is expensive for SA) vs. Other lunch stops in franschoek. Wine was okay but it was very touristy stop full of pretty drunken folk. My advice would be avoid and spend more time at Moreson (the best on grey line), rickety bridge, le lude and haute cabriere!

The setting and grounds are absolutely breathtaking, truly a feast for the eyes. However, I would strongly advise against dining at the Bistro.
The experience was nothing short of disappointing, with the food failing to meet even the most basic expectations. Scarcely does the word 'deplorable' capture the extent of the culinary letdown."

We visited Grande Provence as private visitors, rather than on the Wine Tram or a tour. The setting is absolutely beautiful with lovely gardens surrounding the outside Wine Tasting area. Unfortunately the wine tasting at R85 per person was an expensive disappointment. Some of the wines we tried only cost R69 to purchase, and the quality was very poor which is perhaps reflected in the price. This was the most expensive entry level wine tasting we visited, for the poorest quality wines. Better to go elsewhere in Franschhoek and pay less to taste better quality, and higher priced wines. Worth visiting however to see the cheetahs, and the setting, but don't stop to taste!

This estate has another dimension, that is its sculpture garden and gallery. other than wine and dine and there are options there as to how you want to experience this. This makes it a very special place.
We chose to have oysters and bubbly and a seasonal salad and all three were exceptional as we sat in the garden surrounded by the extraordinary unique works of Anton Smit. The oysters were firm bellied fresh and flavoursome
We were fortunate to have Tanya serving our table with charm and professionalism - best wishes for your future endeavours you have success written all over you

Vou fazer a visita nessa vinicola pelo Wine Tram. Sabem me dizer se é necessário reserva para a degustação de vinhos?

Hello, Do you need/take reservations for the Tapas in the tasting room? We are planning to take the wine tram on September 14. Thank you.
Written 18 August 2015
I would think reservations are needed in tasting room on a weekday. Meals in evening and weekends are typically booked. You will love this place.
