Agriculture and a simple farm lifestyle is at the heart of Boschendal. One of the oldest farms in South Africa, founded 1685, the farm has grown with the passing centuries into a cherished source of wholesome produce, great wines and happy memories.

Set in the Drakenstein Valley surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, lush gardens and vines, the original farmstead complex is now a national monument with a rich and intriguing history of more than 300 years.

Today, Boschendal is a Cape winelands icon and a cherished wine and food destination. Our vineyards and fruit trees have been joined by vegetable gardens and a growing herd of free range, 100% pasture fed Angus cattle reflecting our commitment to serving wholesome farm-to-table food.

Guest accommodation is also a recent addition to the farm with luxurious cottage accommodation ranging from the exclusive and historic Rhodes Cottage built by Sir Herbert Baker to the elegantly restored Werf Cottages.

Cottage guests enjoy access to the entire farm where they can walk and cycle on trails through mountain fynbos, dine under the stars, have picnics and sundowners in exclusive areas, fly-fish in the dams and swim in pristine mountain water.

Stunning grounds. Even if you're not interested in wine tasting the settings, the cafe and the grounds are enchanting. Interesting sculptures scattered throughout. Herb and vegetable gardens are highly picturesque. Well worth a visit - long or short.

Really picturesque, with lawns and a variety of seating areas, tasting areas, gardens and shops. We enjoyed the picnic at the Werf Gardens which a nicely casual with bean bags, rug and a choice of tree to sit under! I think to get the most out of the visit you really have to move between the different areas and wander... More

Having done wine tours of Margaret River, I was looking for beautiful wine growing properties with great wines. Boschendal was an interesting property with ok wines. The staff were very good but the property and wines disappointed. Keep in mind this was the first winery visited. La Motte was much closer to the mark.

They have thought through what to offer and how to do it well; for example coach parties are sent to a different location on the estate so as not to overwhelm the normal café and restaurant. We ate at the café / deli, the food was fresh, with a sufficient range of options for a light lunch, service was OK... More

Sipping wine under old oak trees in the afternoon sun. I visited this wine estate and even though I was travelling solo, I was treated like a queen. The gentleman serving were very polite and knew their stuff about wine and the estate. The food was exceptional (the burgers are to die for!) and there was so much to do... More

The staff organized a pic nic for us under the trees with delicious tasteful food inside the basket. Offered us delicious bubbly and we could hang out on the hang mat and in the bean bags! It was one of those delicious end of summer days. We visited the different restaurants areas and the gardens. The shop also sells very... More
