Discover the Vineyards of Franschhoek. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley - picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history. Tour Experience: Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely introduction to the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping at some of South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram-bus follows a loop of stops allowing guests to hop off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, such as wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards. When ready guests simply hop on to continue the tour. The tour takes guests into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a guided commentary and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards. There are now six different tours you can do on the wine tram, with some overlap. We've done some of those nearer town before so we went for the orange line which covers the western farms. Whichever route you pick you'll have a great day,...More

We went on the blue line, we booked from home which was good because blue line one of the busiest. Stopped off at la Bourgogne and had olive and wine tasting which was delicious, La Couronne has a shipping service to UK which is reasonably...More

The wine tram consists of a number of routes linking various wineries around the town. Each route or line, covers approx 6 wineries and you basically hop on & hop off your tram as you want. There is a one hour interval between pickups -...More

We really enjoyed our day on the purple line. It's really well organised, the tram is great and the staff really friendly and efficient. The only downside was that having an hour at a winery is very rushed for doing a tasting by the time...More

This time we took advantage of a minibus from Cape Town so we could drink and not drive! The wine tram/bus is fun visiting 6 wineries in a day. They are all a bit different with very different wines. Its sociable and easy to meet...More

We took the wine tram to Rickety Bridge and Grand Provence. The children enjoyed the experience and much nicer / more unusual than driving or getting a taxi. Definitely recommend Grand Provence and probably worth a couple of hours there

Much cheaper and safer than renting a car or taking a private driver or cab. Unlike visiting vineyards in the US, there is a charge by each vineyard for tasting. Also there are no opportunities to see the grape processing or wine storage facilities.

For a modest cost, you can visit some wine farms and do the tastings and take lunch, without personal transport.

Honestly this is the way to do Franschhoek - it doesn't go everywhere and you can only see 6 vineyards in a day max (even if you take the earliest departure), but it's great. Really convenient, lovely scenery and you can meet some great people....More

It is the best way to explore various wineries and get around. This way you don't have to worry about drinking and driving. They have a trolley bus and a tram that transport the tourists. You have a choice of different routes. We selected the...More

My personal opinion will be the red line for a couple. We have done it before and its more relaxed than the orange line.
