Discover the Vineyards of Franschhoek. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley - picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history. Tour Experience: Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely introduction to the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping at some of South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram-bus follows a loop of stops allowing guests to hop off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, such as wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards. When ready guests simply hop on to continue the tour. The tour takes guests into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a guided commentary and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards. Fantastic means to get around Franschhoek wine estates. Multiple lines covering over 25 different wine estates in the valley. All trips/tours for all lines start from the main office in the centre of Franschhoek town and you collect tickets I'd prefer-booked on the day. We...More

Great way to get around the vineyards without the worry of driving. There are various wine tram tour options you can book all of which give you the chance to visit about five vineyards. We spent a full day (11:00-18:00) exploring the wine region and...More

I think they should let you switch between lines and most of the wine touring is actually by bus shy of two wineraires. It was an experience and were happy we went but at the end I likely wouldn't do it again.

There are several touring options one can chose from, depending on the number of wine estates you wish to visit. My wife and I chose the drop-off at 6 estates, each lasting a hour, whereafter the tram would return to transport us to the next...More

After having the Franschoek wine tram recommended to us by multiple Capetonians we just had to experience it ourselves. The new purple line comes highly recommended. It is a bus only option but visits some of our absolute must sees. Hop off at Boschendal and...More

The wine bus/tram was a great initiative by a very smart person to make it easier for people like me to be able to go to a variety of wine farms, taste the wine and not have to worry about driving home afterwards. The staff...More

Cute, not bad for a first time visitor to a/any wine region. Would much rather have hired a driver and picked the wineries to visit. Not recommended for a seasoned wine interested person. Maybe this was obvious (we were there as part of an organized...More

We want to visit estates that also have cheese/chocolate and olive oil tasting as we will be traveling with our 18, 16 and 13 year olds. What line would you recommend we take? Thank you and looking forward to our visit! Ann Stern

Hi everyone, I've booked the 10am blue line but we'd like to have a picnic at Mont rochelle - it only opens at 12noon - which would mean 3 hours at the first stop on the route. It's not clear from the website or other threads if we could walk from one vineyard to another to try and catch up over the course of the day - meeting the wine tram at a stop further down essentially. Or are they just too far apart? thanks!

Dear Deborah W, Thank you for your question. I would strongly recommend emailing us to make a change to your current booking, I would suggest changing this to the 10:15am Green Line. The wine estates are not in walking... More

Hello, Can you please tell me what line we should take if we are looking to book dinner at Foliage? Is it possible to plan the day or half a day on the train with the option to plan for dinner at a specific time and place? Can you please also tell me if we were to book transportation through you from Cape Town and returning on the same day, what are the available times there and back. My husband and I are planning a visit for mid July. Thank you very much for your assistance. Shari & Christian
