Discover the Vineyards of Franschhoek. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on...

Discover the Vineyards of Franschhoek. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley - picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300-year history. Tour Experience: Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely introduction to the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping at some of South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. A combination of tram and tram-bus follows a loop of stops allowing guests to hop off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, such as wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards. When ready guests simply hop on to continue the tour. The tour takes guests into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a guided commentary and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards.

It is only two vineyards by Tram and the rest by bus - but the service was excellent and timings just right. A great idea and thoroughly recommend it. People running it were really friendly and the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable.

This is a great option in Franschhoek! It stops at some of the best vineyards and means you don't need to drink and drive. We managed to do wine tastings at Haute Cabriere (the wine cellar tour and tasting is the best!), had lunch at Charmonix and another wine tasting at Rickety Bridge (which was complementary). Everything ran like clockwork... More

Gather this has only been in operation since late 2012. A great find. You can spend all day travelling from one winery to another, enjoying tastings as well as visiting the Museum. Great value for money and makes a very leisurely excursion,.

This is a great way of visiting several wineries in a day and being able to enjoy the wine without having to worry about drink driving. The tram and bus are delightful and we even had a ride on a tractor to one of the estates. What fun. The staff was also extremely friendly. Would recommend. But beware of timetable.... More

We really enjoyed our day on the hop on/hop off wine tram visiting various wineries with tastings at three of them. We caught the first tram at 10 a.m. and arrived back at our accommodation around 3.30 p.m.

The bus, and then tram take you round five of the local wine estates, where you can taste a selection of wines included in the price of R150 each. The downside is that if you get off you have to wait 40 minutes for the next pick-up. Quite a lot of the pepole who were using the trip were clearly... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and the staff were great fun. It is a good way of visiting several vineyards stopping off for lunch along the way. We had lunch at Rickety Ridge. The food, service and staff was very good. The only down side was the stop at Grand Provence. The made us feel very unwelcome sending us to... More

This is a great idea and was a bit of fun, and was actually a mix of open bus, tram, something pulled by a tractor and a truck, but meant not having to drive and being able to enjoy the wine tasting, and certainly wasn't expensive. Four of the vineyards visited did free tasting, and the food at Rickety Bridge... More

The tram takes you to some good wineries where sampling is the order of the day and no driving to follow! It's not quite what it purports to be because the "tram" ride is more limited than the publicity suggests. Having said that, it's a lot of fun and not expensive. Is it worth doing - oh yes!

This idea is fabulous if you are staying in Franschhoek especially if a driver. The vineyards that you visit are fabulous - Grand Provence has a lovely gallery showing local artists and the wine is lovely. Rickety Bridge has amazing views and the cheese platter along with the wine tasting is amazing. The bus takes you along to 5 more... More
