Nice drive, winding road heading to the pass, great views, some baboons along the way. We kept going east to our next destination.

Absolutely spectacular drive over the Franschoek pass today - well worth the drive but watch out for the baboons that tend to cross the road on occasions!

Great views from the top of the pass

When driving into Franschhoek on the R45 from the south, the view at the top of the pass before driving down into the Franschhoek valley is amazing. There is also a safe parking area to stop and take photos.

We took this route whilst travelling from Franshoek to the south coast. Stunning route with good view points to stop. Amazing scenery

Best Route to Franschhoek

So there are a few ways to get to Fran. from Cape Town. The boring fast way N of Stell. or the REALLY scenic S route via Grabouw, through Sir Lowry's pass, into the Elgin Valley, past the reservoir which supplies most of CT's fresh water and over the Fran. Pass into Fran. If you have to, hire a private driver (Howie's Transport is recommended) to get there. Amazing drive.

Beautiful scenery, nice views of the valley.
La Petit Ferme estate is worth stopping, some of the best wines in South Africa.

Beautiful Pass

A stunning mountain pass. Beautiful to drive through and also offers a lot of hiking and nature activities. Better to take coming into the town; if taken when leaving, it is anti-climatic.
