La Rochelle Tours (Est 2000) with the main focus being on conducting personalised wine tours in small groups (2-13) visiting less commercial wineries when possible. Our 2 specialized wine tourism guides are educated by the Cape Wine Academy. All guided tours and transfers by La Rochelle Tours are done professionally & we try to exceed expectations daily. We like to share information about wine in a fun & relaxing manner. Wine should be enjoyed & learning more about it can be fun. We are based in Franschhoek & we would love to share our passion for wine with you! We also offer transfers to and from Franschhoek and Cape Town International Airport, Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Hermanus. We do collections for wine tours from Franschhoek, Stellenbosch & Paarl. Our driver, Bev, was excellent. Even though we’d only booked a taxi for the day(we opted to book the vineyards ourselves), Bev gave us lots of tips and even took us to try a fantastic sweet wine from Haute Cabriere which wasn’t on our itinerary but we’re very glad we visited. You can tell she’s passionate about her job and really cares about her clients. The mini bus was clean and she was on time. A great day out and very much recommended! 😊

The weather was awful! But our guide & driver Danielle did everything she could to keep us dry! Great wine tasting + lunch experience. Worked with La Rochelle ahead of time to zero in on wineries that would best match our tastes. We were picked up at our hotel in Franschhoek and stopped at three wineries for tastings & lunch. We've had very little exposure to South African wines so this was our opportunity to sample a variety (but focused on reds). Danielle knew her wines and the history/personalities that developed the wine industry in SA.

Fantastic experience! Our guide Elma was amazing. Really friendly guy. His knowledge about wine, wine and food pairings and the local area was exceptional. We learned so much! Will definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Stellenbosch area.

Maybe the best day of our first ever trip to South Africa. We were met by our guide, Aylmar, to discover that we were the only ones booked for the day and so had him, and his minibus, to ourselves. I won't reveal where we went but Alymar's choices were top notch and the pairing experiences very relaxed, enjoyable and enlightening!
What we found particularly interesting was finding out a lot more about what makes this part of the country tick and some revealing insights on the history of SA and the social fabric of the nation.
Anyhow back on the wine - if you are on the mystery tour make sure you get the nougat / Cape Classique pairings - sublime wines in an incredible setting!
We will return - the day will live long in the memory.

A fantastic mystery wine tour with food pairings! Our guide, Aylmar, was excellent - extremely knowledgeable about wine and South Africa in general. We really recommend this tour & would do it again if we’re back in Franschhoek.

We did the Half-Day Chocolate Cheese and Wine Tour (sorry that wasn't an option in the drop down for review) with Danelle. It was our second time doing this tour (last time was 2017).
Danelle has an exceptional knowledge of wine and is great at sharing this. We also ended up asking to have the very lovely Mia the daschund along on our tour. She's a very sweet dog and made for a lively outing, a great option if you're a dog lover.

The guide (Aylmer) was particularly tuned to our specific interests -- he selected wineries and sought particular varietals based on what we had liked and discussed. He had us taste in combination with salt and cheeses, etc to bring out the individual wines' best characteristics. We have tasted wines on all six wine growing continents, and Aylmar gave us the best experience that we have ever had.

First of all, Andrew. Absolutely a star driver, conversationalist and human being. We were so pleased to have him with us for two days straight - such a pleasure to be with. He was always early, a real gem to speak with and he has some great stories. Really recommend!!!
This tour was so useful if you wish to go to wineries off the beaten track and create your own itinerary. They were superb. Highly recommend visiting Uva Mira, Jordan (picnics are sensational), Meerlust, Kanonkop, Rust en Vrede and De Toren.

Absolutely wonderful and enlightening experience. Our tour guide Aylmer was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. We learned so much about not only the wine but the local area and culture! Would recommend to anyone. The tastings and pairings themselves were top notch - could not have asked for better selections. Aylmer was insightful on how to enjoy wine based on your own palate, and you will no doubt find some flavors you love throughout the day!

Really fun and informative day. Our guide Aylmer was highly knowledgeable and very friendly. He took us to a great selection of wineries (including one stunner that I won't post a photo of just because it's nice to be surprised!). We also had a really nice lunch stop with beautiful views.

What is the cost? Why would tours be advertised without the cost? Before we book, I need to know the cost of either the 1/2 day or full day chocolate, cheese, olive oil and wine tours?

If you go onto their Website La Rochelle Wine Tours, they have all the different options on a selection of half and full day wine tours with the prices of each one clearly shown. That is how I booked mine. Johan, the Manager +27 83 301 6774, is very friendly, efficient and helpful with regards to all questions and arrangements to be made with the choice of your Tour.
