This was our second chocolate, olive, cheese and wine tour with Danelle from La Rochelle Wine Tours and, again, it was a fantastic and educational day out!

Danelle is incredibly knowledgeable and helps to explain the background to the regions wine industry and production. She is also good fun and takes a decent photo!

A full day out with La Rochelle is excellent value and Danelle is clearly a valued client for the vineyards, which helps. Can’t recommend highly enough - and the wines are delicious! Cheers!

Had a great day out with Aylmer as out personal guide, taught us lots of local South African history as well as how to taste, smell and appreciate the different aromas and tastes between white, rose and reds and sparkling wines. Visited 3 vineyards and stopping at another for lunch with breathtaking views of the area of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
Thank you for a brilliant day and I would definitely recommend this tour, or try with the cheese and chocolates. I booked this from the UK.
My favourite was the sparkling blush.

We booked a driver and vehicle to do a wine tour in the Franschoek area. I had researched various ways to do the tour, tram, bicycle, group tour but decided a driver was the best way and I was 100% satisfied with them. Booking the tour by email worked really well with great communication from their office. Our driver Francois was friendly, knowledgeable and an all round great guy. I had done a lot of research on where to visit but only got down to a list of about 12 possibles. His expertise helped enormously in choosing from my list and adding in one that turned out to be the best of the day, not available on the tram and an appointment needed, which he fixed. A great experience and I would not hesitate to recommend them and use them again.

What an amazing wine tour with Danelle, visited the Tokara and Ernie Els wineries and tasted some very nice wines. From meeting at our Stellenbosch hotel to dropping us back Danelle was an incredible host, guide, and advisor. Her knowledge of wine and South Africa in general is unbelievable, I think we earned a diploma. Plus Danelle took some excellent photographs for us at both wineries. Also, she gave us a list of recommended restaurants to try both in Stellenbosch and Cape Town. Would really recommend a tour with La Rochelle Wine Tours.

We were picked up from our accommodation ( which wasn’t too easy to find ) very punctual and even called us just before pick up .
Almyer our guide was very friendly from the start and we all felt very comfortable with him .
Almyer asked what we all wanted from our day then he specifically tailors the day to suit .

In previous years we have done various winery tours with this company whilst staying in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch and this year we tried the beer and wine tour and had another lovely afternoon out with Danelle. She is so knowledgeable about the processes, the wineries, grapes, history of the place and she is so lovely and great company. Everything is done at your pace and if there are certain types of wine/grape you want to try she'll take you to that winery otherwise leave it to her as you will have a great time. Admittedly, out of curiosity I did try the wine tram the following day but the experience was no where near what you would get with La Rochelle Tours. You are all crammed on to a bus or train, they say you have an hour at each winery but the reality is you only get about 45mins by the time you get transferred from train to tasting room or waiting for bus to leave due to overcrowding. Amongst the hoardes and when the wine eventually comes to you makes for a very hurried and rushed affair as we didn't get to see around a couple of the wineries as we had to rush for transport and even then we couldn't get back on the train as it was packed. Also note that a couple of the planned stops on their route they no longer stop at. With La Rochelle and Danelle, you are comfortably driven around the estates taking in the fantastic scenery enroute, whilst she tells you loads about the wineries the history and anything you care to ask. At the wineries, she takes great care of you and ensures you are swiftly looked after as she is known by them all. Loads of background information given and there is no rush, you get to look around the winery and behind the scenes which you don't get on the wine tram, and if you want to buy wine you are not worrying about missing the transport. Basically, if you want the cheap and cheerful buffet option then take the tram or spend a little more and have al la carte, a more personal touch and experience, comfort and greater knowledge particularly as you have gone all that way to get there in the first place, then Danelle is your choice by far. We will definitely be sticking with La Rochelle tours in the future.

We spent the day with Alymer on the Chocolate, Cheese, Olive, and Wine Tour. He was personable and very knowledgeable in all areas. We tasted about 14 wines, plus olive oil, cheeses, and chocolate. His sense of humor and professionalism made this the perfect day in Wine Country. I recommend this tour highly.

We had two days set aside in the Franschhoek/Stellenbosch area for wine tastings. After some initial searches online I found out that La Rochelle reviewed very well on Trip Advisor. I got in contact with Johan and we agreed to start with a normal "wine tour" followed by the "Gourmet tour" on the second day. Pick up/drop-off at our hotel is/was included in the tour package(s).

Our guide Aylmer had been conducting wine tours for 14 years and clearly knows the whole Paarl/Franschhoek/Stellenbosch region intimately. While on-route between different locations he also shared many facts and stories about the area and its history that we found very interesting.

While at the wineries we got many insightful "tips and tricks" how to best enjoy different types of wines, and also how to best pair them with different sorts of food and flavors.

We (group of three couples) concluded that our "plan" had been optimal. First day we focused on the wine and different tasting techniques followed by a day with pairing between good wine and (plenty of) food (we unanimously agreed to cancel our dinner reservation for that evening once back at the hotel).

Aylmer had our full attention during two full days and we are very grateful for having got the opportunity to travel with him through a fantastic wine area. Worth every penny spent!

I did the full day chocolate, cheese, olive and wine tasting tour while on honeymoon with my wife. We got lucky as we were the only people on the tour that day so in effect it was a private tour with our guide Danelle.

Danelle was superb. She had a great knowledge of wines and the area. She passed on lots of information as we did the tastings but was still very informal and didn't look down at all on our limited wine knowledge. She happily answered any questions we had even when we were making her repeat things she had already told us. Best of all she was great company for the day. Sometimes I am wary of private tours because it can be claustrophobic but it was like spending the day with a friend.

The tour consisted of visiting three wineries. At the first we tasted five wines and did a chocolate pairing. At the second we tasted six wines with chocolate and biltong pairing. We paused for lunch then at the second winery which was paid for separately by us. Lastly we visited a third winery where we tasted seven wines and had a cheese and olive pairing.

At each winery it was clear that Danelle was friendly with the staff. As a result the service we received from waiting staff was excellent and they threw in some extra wines to taste that aren't available to the public. We had done tastings using the wine tram service earlier in the week and we both thought that the service offered by waiting staff on this tour was completely different.

We will definitely be taking another La Rochelle wine tour if we are back in Franschheok. If you only have one day and are choosing between this and the wine tram go with this.
