About
The Wine Studio is situated on Leeu Estates in Franschhoek and was designed by eminent Spanish Architect, Tomeu Esteva, who wanted to create the ultimate environment in which to taste fine wines. The knowledgeable team will guide you through the bespoke tastings of the Mullineux (Swartland) and Leeu Passant (Franschhoek) wine portfolios, with elegant glassware and in a comfortable, relaxed space.

Impressive

We were staying at the sister hotel (Leeu House) so decided to visit here for a wine tasting tasting and the garden art tour.

The hotel is stunning and at first glance looks quite formal but the service here was exceptional and very relaxed and you instantly felt as though you were staying here. The garden art tour is a must do, with the art collection and the attention to detail in the gardens very impressive. Special thanks to Ethan who showed us around, he was very enthusiastic, entertaining and informative, a credit to the place.

The wine tasting was also located in a beautiful tasting room, and was relaxed and informal.

All in all well worth a visit even if you are not staying here.

Worthy of a visit
Mar 2020
Lovely setting and and great place for tasting wines.
We were presented with five wines each, plus an explanation of the contents, which was all very interesting.
Certainly not over priced and well worth an hour or so to visit.

High class

The wine tasting is nice though there are lots of good tasting experiences in Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl. The best are the gardens and the hotel & Spa with the gardens and art. Beautifully payed out and an elevating experience. High end.

Delicious but overpriced wine
Aug 2019
Wine was very nice and the Sommelier was extremely good at explaining to us where and how the wine has been made. Overall the experience was very good but I do think the wine was overpriced to get it delivered back to the UK compared to other vineyards. It was disappointing that the majority of the wine isn't made in Franschhoek.

Make a point to spend some extra time walking around the estate and visiting the museum they have on site. Great place for a tasting!

A great place for dinner
Mar 2019 • Couples
The view outside is fantastic for a spectacular dinner view. Be sure to show up before sunset to view the gardens at dusk. The wines were lovely and the food was delicious. Our waiter was amazing.

Scripted, inattentive and uninteresting
Feb 2019 • Couples
While we booked the Mullineux Single Terrior and Leeu Passant tastings (R 300 and R 120, respectively), our experience was impersonal and scripted. Yes, the lightweight and universal Gabriel-glas stemware was impressive, as was the visual of the soil types (the wine geek in me really wanted to love the experience), but at the end of the day, the tasting was, in a word, inattentive.

The grounds of the estate are beautiful and the tasting room quaint. I anticipated a personalized experience, yet found myself thinking the wines were nice yet overpriced, and the tasting was just another tasting, like any other wine farm I’ve been to, though with a little less attention to detail.

In leaving, our rushed server was scrambling to attend to his other clients (and couldn’t locate the card machine) so I gave him the R 300 in bills and told him we regrettably had to skip the Leeu Passant. With the Syrah still on my palate (can’t remember if it was the iron, quartz or granite), we walked out the door with a bitter aftertaste nonetheless.

Exceptional wines + pleasant & knowledgeable wine tasting guide + Gabriel glasses + serene spot = uplifting experience!
Feb 2019 • Couples
As part of our Camino Tours in Franschhoek, we visited the exceptionally elegant Wine Studio at Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines where Vincent very skilfully led our tasting of the truly spectacular, low intervention, largely old vine wines. He was eloquent, knowledgeable and very pleasantly answered each of our many questions. The wines were served in angelically light Gabriel glasses – an experience which has since made drinking out of our own beautiful, but not so exquisite, wine glasses a trifle more mundane. Glasses really do make a huge difference to wine appreciation!
