We came here as we wanted to do a high end tasting and avoid the crowds we saw on the wine tram. We like our wines and are prepared to seek out something that’s a bit different to the usual places. We walked from our accommodation in Franschhoek and just asked at the gate if there was any chance of getting a tasting, we were unable to book online as they only do reservations a day in advance. They said we could come back in 1.5 hours and they would fit us in. We had wandered past Mont Rochelle (Richard Bransons vineyard and hotel) on the way to Mullineaux and Leeu so we went back and had a coffee in the Country Kitchen. More on that in another review as we went back for lunch and tasting there the following day.
The tasting at Leeu was in a beautiful location and we tried the premium tasting, the Leeu Passant tasting. All of the wines were very good with the surprise being the Chardonnay, not a varietal I am overly fond of, it was refreshing and only lightly oaked. The other wines were good but the reds needed a little more aging. The sommelier who guided us through the tasting was knowledgable and friendly and answered any question we threw at him. He spends a lot of his life as a sommelier on the Celebrity ships and his knowledge was exceptional.
The grounds of the estate are incredibly well maintained, 100 gardeners apparently, and taking a slow walk to the tasting area and back is well worth it.

Very personalized. We had scheduled a private tasting of premium wines from home. Beautiful, modern, tastefully decorated cellar with delicious premium wines. 4 generous tastings in beautiful crystal glasses. I believe the cost was approximately $16 US a person. So worth it. We are still talking about it.

Very average Wine tasting in this beautiful estate and setting. These wines in general are very expensive and all the wines we had to taste in one glass. All other up market wine estates let you taste wines in different glasses. Here they used one glass for both red and white wines. The bathrooms in this beautiful tasting room was not well kept or maintained either. Quite disappointing as this Leeu estate is beautiful and all the lawns and bushes are very well maintained. Setting is great.

Immaculate vineyard. Wine tour done here. No tour included. Disappointed to known no wines are actually made here and even the grapes are sold to other vineyards. All for show

I booked in advance for the single terroir tasting and then also did the other two tastings on offer. If you are a wine enthusiast, definitely book in advance for the single terroir tasting, which is very interesting.. The tastings are good value bearing in mind the price and quality of the wine. These are some of SA's best wines and, at the time I visited, a number were sold out apart from a few bottles held back for tasting.

I sat outside in a little shady patio, but the wine tasting room is also lovely. Staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. My wine guide, Ruben, was excellent. The tasting room is next to some swanky-looking accommodation, all set in beautiful manicured gardens on the hillside overlooking Franschhoek. Highly recommended

My boyfriend and I spent several days in Franschhoek visiting wineries. We found Mullineux and Leeu to be our favorite....Marcheline took us on a journey through how the owners met, how they founded the winery and the awards won for their amazing wine making ability. The education on each of the wines...characteristics, soil, etc was very informative. We loved the more intimate approach to both learning about the wines and the wine tasting and thought Marcheline was absolutely fantastic.

My husband and I enjoyed a wine tasting at before enjoying lunch at La Petit Colombe and had a marvellous experience. The server had marvellous wine knowledge about the wines available as well as wines in general. The wines we tasted were spectacular, Andrea has exceptional talent with regards to wine making. The Straw wine was my favourite as it stood out compared to other dessert wines I have tasted. This will become a regular stop that we make whenever venturing out to Franschoek. The estate is absolutely gorgeous and very well kept.

We were staying at the sister hotel (Leeu House) so decided to visit here for a wine tasting tasting and the garden art tour.

The hotel is stunning and at first glance looks quite formal but the service here was exceptional and very relaxed and you instantly felt as though you were staying here. The garden art tour is a must do, with the art collection and the attention to detail in the gardens very impressive. Special thanks to Ethan who showed us around, he was very enthusiastic, entertaining and informative, a credit to the place.

The wine tasting was also located in a beautiful tasting room, and was relaxed and informal.

All in all well worth a visit even if you are not staying here.

Lovely setting and and great place for tasting wines.
We were presented with five wines each, plus an explanation of the contents, which was all very interesting.
Certainly not over priced and well worth an hour or so to visit.
