I booked in for horse riding and the horses were incredibly neglected. They were kept locked in a stable on 30+ degree day with no water. One horse had scabs and cuts and was bleeding around his eyes and ears with flies infesting the wounds. The horses hooves were overgrown causing them pain. They weren't receiving vet care and 2 died from illness.
I complained and the grooms all lied and said the horses were well cared for. I wasted the entire ride checking on the horses, watching over them while they filled the water troughs. Please, if you visit the park, go and check on the horses - see that they have water, get vet care and don't have skin conditions and report any neglect you say on the reviews.
The grooms are lazy and only do their job if forced to. They feel entitled to get paid regardless of whether they actually do their jobs.
I have complained to management who have said that they will investigate.

On a 6 night family stay we stayed in the Safari tents, Rondavels and Forest Huts. The accommodation is in a shocking state. Lack of basic maintenance. Cutlery missing, lights broken, dirt under beds, communal showers with no privacey curtains, blocked drains, mould in showers and no mop to clean up after yourself for the next guest. Staff friendly and animals plentiful... But is this enouth to keep people returning? This is not the standard that we expect. No wonder small private affordable lodges are popping up outside the park.

This was a memorable day. Addo blessed us with the most amazing game viewing. Every waterhole was a treat and we saw so many elephants and other game. This is a gem of National Parks.

We booked the morning tour to the Addo Elephant Park at the Hitgeheim Lodge. Accompanied by a friendly and competent guide we had an impressive tour around the park. We saw a plenty of different animals in their natural environment. Beside the elephants we especially appreciated the opportunity to see some lions. I am not too excited about animals in general but this park is a must have seen place for every Garden Route tour.

The Addo Elephant National park was a big adventure. We loved the wilderness of the park. We have seen so many animals and we enjoyed the whole trip a lot.

I've got no idea why Tripadvisor have named Addo Elephant Park in Spanish - they have listed a whole series of day trips but this is the only one I could find for the park itself!
We went there on a day trip while staying at Amakhala nearby, usimg an Amakhala jeep. Actually it was a lot further away than we thought, much of it on unmade bumpy roads - through the town of Paterson which is - franklly - a dump but where a lot of the staff from the nearby game lodges live. Addo itself is big and we didn't see many elephants. Most interesting were the antics of the dung beetles on and around the road; most disappointing was that it seemed anyone was allowed tio drive their own cars in the park and had no idea about the poor dung beetles who were struggling to get their balls of dung across or off the road!

After having been on 25 safaris and 6 times in Kruger, I wondered whether this park would be interesting. Yes it is, I saw a few and animals I had not seen before. It is worthwhile to visit this park and you could consider to visit just this park and not going all the way north to Kruger. We saw a lion, plenty of elephants, buffels, antilopes and zebra's, but no giraffes.

Addo is a nature reserve, this means the animals are in their own environment and you are the outsider. This allows for amazing experiences of watching elephants, springboks, war hogs ect in their natural habitat. They will come close to you because you respect their environment

We are going to be in the Addo Elephant Park for two full days (and 3 nights at the end of September). Will be staying at the Addo Rest Camp. And I wondered if you could give us some idea of the best routes to travel for a self-drive trip out?
Will be very grateful for any map routes or suggestions.

Es sind etwa 700 km einfache Strecke. Mir wäre das zu stressig. Alternativ bis Port Elisabeth fliegen. Von dort 45 Minuten mit dem Auto.
Bonjour,

In english perhaps...or in french, but non in german!
We slept ta Addo African Home, a very good resort with an excellent restaurant. On l’y 11km to the park.
We chose a « Rondavel », a traditional african house. Nice.
