- Melanie NAlabama700 contributionsAmazing and special views of the Manhattan SkylineLiberty State Park is located on the shores of the Hudson River allowing for amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. My mother and I needed a break from our road trip and we were pleasantly surprised with the special views of One World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. Although we were seeing Lady Liberty’s backside it was still an amazing view. Free parking and clean bathrooms are available next to Flag Plaza near the south end of the park. There we found a shaded picnic area with access to Liberty Walk Promenade. The promenade stretches the entire length of the park running along the river’s edge. The gps I used for this area was 200 Morris Pesin Dr Jersey City. You can also take Freedom Way Dr to the north side of the park to access the Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial and Ferry services. Paid and limited free parking available. My only con is that handicap parking should be closer or allow a drop-off area for the physically challenged. It is a great distance to reach the promenade from the parking areas.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- Conner D3 contributionsChill Day Out: Liberty State ParkLiberty State Park is a laid-back oasis in Jersey City, offering green spaces, waterfront views, and a chill vibe. Perfect for picnics, casual walks, and family fun at the Liberty Science Center. It's a go-to spot for a relaxed day out with a great view of the Statue of Liberty – nature, history, and good times in one place.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 December 2023
- Jean GMenomonee Falls, Wisconsin4 contributionsBeautiful ParkA beautiful park with stunning views of the Statue of Liberty and New York skyline. A very relaxing and enjoyable way to spend vacation time. I was in awe of the views and somber too as I remembered 9/11. Well worth a visit. Bring some water along-it was 82 degrees and sunny and there was only one drinking fountain that I saw in the whole park.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 3 June 2024
- Natalie1204Kolkata (Calcutta), India7,928 contributionsBeautiful and green, ferry service to New YorkEven if you’re staying in New York, it’s worth going across to New Jersey to the park. It offers a fabulous view of the New York/Manhattan skyline. You can take the ferry across from New York City to Ellis Island/ Liberty Island or the train/metro and ferry is back from Jersey to Battery Park, New York (downtown) via the islands and catch a glimpse of the Statue Of Liberty. I would recommend keeping half a day in hand, to tour both islands - Ellis Island and Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty. Beware of scams and people selling fake tickets especially in the battery park area. It’s best to buy them previously online from the official trusted site. There are sometimes pretty good groupon offers as well so look out for them. Besides the ferry service, the park is also great for joggers, runners, people walking and even for picnics. It’s pet-friendly and has a playground. There are public restroomsVisited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 June 2024

It was clean and safe and many people seemed to be enjoying the artwork, skyline views, visiting with others, taking children to an outdoor movie, etc. We also used this to catch our ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The weather was perfect the two nights we were there.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 July 2024
- Moe_IpakUnited States422 contributionsGreat Park with a Great ViewWhat a wonderful view of the NY skyline from here. This park is huge and so many places that you can have your own picnic (bring your food from home). Paid parking is plenty. I recommend coming in the evening to get the view of the Skyline. Attached is the Liberty Science Center if you are interested. Lots of tracks for jogging and walking.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 August 2024

Statue City Cruises is the only company that ferries you to both islands. The departure from Liberty State Park is easy. Lots of free parking and much less crowded than the New York City side. If you are already in NJ, this is the way to go! Reasonable prices too for the ferry and a very workable schedule to both islands.

Great place to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
For some reason, I didn't realize the Statue of Liberty was in between New York city and New Jersey. We were planning on being in the area for another event and looking what we could do in our free time. We discovered the Statue of Liberty was in viewing distance of the New Jersey shore, in fact very close.
I expected a sort of roadside type of park and an area with a view of the Statue of Liberty. Was I surprised! New Jersey has a very spacious state park just behind the statue.
The park was not just a viewing area. It had a nice visitor center (with restrooms), a picnic/family friendly area complete with grills, and very spacious grounds that included a nice WWII memorial.
We did not make it, but there is a walkway to a science center and ferries that run to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island.
We did make it to the nature center just down the road from the viewing area. It was also very nice, with both outdoor and indoor displays of the natural side of things related to the area.
Kudos to the New Jersey State Park Service for such a nice facility.

If you are physically fit is ok. The tickets and security are very very far apart. If you are traveling with handicapped family member with limited walking and no wheelchair, is terrible. No option but to walk. The "handicap parking" will make you walk over 700 yards to the ticketing office to were security is located to board the ferry, very frustrating. No courtesy wheel chair, golf car or at least the ability to dropped them off. Not sure about Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty with valid ID you can use a wheelchair

Parked here on the way to taking the ferry for Statue of Liberty. Certain parts were well maintained but other parts looked run down, much like most of Jersey City, IMO. The landscaping could use work but there was plenty of parking and as you get closer to the water, it gets cleaner by the waterfront.

Honestly I wasn't expecting much here after a nearby trip to NYC but I was very pleasantly surprised! What a lovely park!
There is plenty of space for you to run, play sports, bring your kids to run around, and more. It is VERY family friendly, as it features various play structures and slides. Plenty of benches to take a break on. Photo worthy skylines. The perfect spot to relax and soak in the sun.
There is plenty of free parking in the area, too.

Nice place to relax and enjoy the views. You can get a nice view of NYC. Looking from this side, it looks like utopia. The Hudson doesn’t disappoint either. Best times for visit are sunset and sunrise. Parking is ample and park is spacious for large groups. Give it a try and you won’t regret it.

Is there a ferry or boat that will simply go around the Statue of Liberty without stopping at it? If I take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, can I jump on a returning ferry or do I have to stay for a certain amount of time? I don't want to actually see anything except the outside of the Statue of Liberty. So how long is the ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty? How do I get back to NJ shore?
Written 2 March 2020
I believe the Statue Cruise boats go the closest to the SOL. But ferries (such as the Staten Island) go by it on their routes.
Written 4 March 2020
Yes you can see it, there is actually a monument close to the waterfront at the park that looks directly at the portion of the Manhattan skyline where the twin towers stood.

How to get to the park from New Jersey Penn Station with public transportation ? Thank you
Written 24 May 2019
Hi. How close is the free parking to the Ferry terminal that goes to Ellis Island?
Written 24 May 2019
I think the close parking is like less than $10 per day, Actually I think it was $7 and that was the closest parking which was about a quarter of a mile to the ferry. Parking far out may not be the safest especially after dark. For $7 or so it's worth the money, and everyone parks there.

Hope to see NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty from here in early to mid-May. Wonder about how far away parking is and if it's always available, and if there are restrooms. We don't plan to go on the ferry or drive through NYC, so want to make sure the view is as great as these pictures make it seem. Thanks!

This is the closest view you can get to the statue without going on the water, although the view is from behind her. There is free parking in the smaller lots, and $7 parking in the northern lot near the ferry to Manhattan. Go to the southern end of the park along the water for the closest view of the statue; park across the street from the Interpretive Center.

Bonjour,

Liberty State Park is 5.36 miles long, covers 1,212 acres. You will be more interested in the ,Liberty Walkway, a crescent-shaped promenade, stretches from the railway Terminal along the waterfront south to the Statue of Liberty overlook and to the South Lawn where the flags are, probably a total distance of 1.5 miles,
