Key West of Jersey
May 2021 • Family
This place reminded me of Key West. There’s a lot of food and unique shops and a lot of gift shop/ tourist apparel. Great place to go for something different. It was pretty crowded when we went on an early Saturday afternoon. But it was still nice. The houses are really cool to look at, so definitely drive around the town.

Nice for an afternoon walk, quaint shops, snacks, restaurants and bars. Plenty of benches for husbands too....

Shopping precinct like this is slowly dying out in many European cities. Do not let that happen here. Treasure

Quaint Little Area.
Dec 2020
The street is not a drive through street. The Main Street is only for walking and made for a great area to take some evening strolls. The street is lined with cute little shops and restaurants. I enjoyed walking around this area even though I did not buy a thing!

Great for people watching, rather crowded
Jul 2020
There was zero physical distancing at the Washington Street Mall, but it was great to see families out and about, enjoying a summery vibe. The shops are very cute and there are some unique ones - a lovely bath store and an all cotton store with luxuriously soft clothing. Even the uber-branded Cape May places had unique items and usually featured local artists. Still, this mostly was a meh experience for me. I'd prefer to find the little local places that are off the beaten path. My husband enjoyed not one, but two ice cream shops.

This is the walkable main event, no chain stores
Jun 2020
Cape May is famous for three things. Exit 0. Victorian homes. And the Washington Street Mall. I personally think the word mall has a negative effect on this location because it is more like a walkable downtown. The best part about this downtown is that Cape May has a rather strict no chain policy. With the exceptions of gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies and banks, everything in this town is local, Washington Street being no exception.

This area of Cape May is walkable from almost anywhere in town.

One of the best streets in NJ.

Plenty of shops and restaurants gets very crowded. Great place to sit and people watch with a Ben and Jerrys ice cream

Not dog friendly
Sep 2020
We took the ferry from Lewis and finally went to Cape May . We had our small dog with us, and have no problems with her anywhere. We were surprised to see the Mall, while a walking outdoor area, is a no dog zone! Hubs took her back to the car while I zoomed through the mall. Only went into one shop,, they all seemed to have the same stuff we found at the beach shoppes and elsewhere. If you are like us, you may need to skip this area. Our walk around town was nice however.

Cute town

Great stop off, well worth a ride to check it out even if your not staying in cape may. I am very sure you will find something to interest everyone. They have a ton of different stores. Its smithville only larger. Loads of different stores and places to eat. I do not suggest you go when its hot out because then its stifling without so much as a breeze and with the beach being only blocks away. Driving in you can see all the beautiful homes. Its really a nice trip to make I would highly recommend now as far as the stores be prepared they are pricey but then again I am sure that the rent here is expensive. I am thinking maybe a trip during the xmas holiday is needed.
