This is a quaint New England town, with a neat history. Lots of shops, restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. I was there in the evening and had a wonderful time walking around window shopping, eating, and drinking.

The soaring white steeple of the North Church is the beacon that marks the center of town. The Market Square below has many sidewalk cafes and charming shops to browse.

This square is cute with shops and benches all over the town. It is 5 minute walk from the Sheraton Portsmouth Hotel where I was staying. Street shows and live music. It has a lot of restaurants to choose from. Don’t forget to reserve on...More

Great place for coffee and dessert and people watching... or more. Street musicians and free telescope viewing on one of the nights we were there. Great atmosphere day and night.

Acknowledged as the center of town, Market Square is definitely worth passing through. Several cafes with outdoor seating and the glorious old church with its bells on the hour are lovely. Every time I passed through, for three days, the curb was full of motorcycles...More

I believe there is a confusion because I think the inquirer perhaps means Plymouth Rock, Mass? I'm afraid I've never heard of a Portsmouth Rock.

I am not sure as we have never been to Portsmouth on Christmas Day. We spend Christmas with family and friends.

Stores and restaurants stay open. The weather in New Hampshire can be tricky. However my wife and I love going to Portsmouth in the winter because the tourist are gone and the food is great. Just bundle up.
