Another big surprise. He's not as big as others, though. The place is very nice and interesting to visit with children on a visit to Las Vegas. Very well explained everything, both in English and Spanish. This was a surprise. The staff is very friendly and the place is very clean. It is located in the northern part of the city.

there are a lot of plastic, painted animals. Children can not be fooled. Living near NYC where we have the natural history museum here, this one in las vegas was a big disappointment. Nothing was real. If you go to Nevade State Museum & Historical Society, you will see some animals and other natural history items.

My husband loves Las Vegas, but traveling with our preschooler made hanging out in the casinos difficult. I took the car and we drove to the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. WOW!! You've got to see the dinosaur exhibit. Some of the dinosaurs are mechanical and they make sounds, too. Kids can dig for dino-bones down the hall. Great way to keep the kids busy and make Vegas an educational experience.

This afternoon I visited the LVNHM and was assisted by the very gracious Crysan, front desk clerk, when I joined the museum's annual membership program. She was gentle, funny and informative.
The Museum is two levels and is bigger than it first appears. The Museum offers special events like shark feedings for us to observe. The lower floor exhibit was an interesting diaspora of wild animals. The upper level contained shark tanks, reptiles, a small gift shop and a very impressive King Tut exhibit.
The young male volunteer, David I believe is his name, was well-versed in King Tut's exhibit, Tut's short life (he was between 18 and 22 when he died of a leg injury caused after being hit by a chariot, and it was very possible this was a murder). This amazing Tut exhibit is the same display that was on scene at the Luxor Hotel and Casino and the Luxor generously donated the exhibit to this Museum.
Only four stars give here because I thought some of the fish tanks were too small for the size fish in the tank; and I do wish the gift shop carried a wider selection of items (maybe journals, scented soaps, things like that).
Otherwise, this is a fine museum, annual membership is extremely affordable and is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Nice small museum, seeing all the animals up close was interesting, $25 for a family of 3 for about 2 hours is good.
Dinosaurs are ok for younger kids, seen better repliicas.
Egypt displays were interesting. My 10 year old enjoyed it, but younger kids would have more fun especially if they get to play in the playground on site.

Like most others the only reason we go to Vegas for gambling, exotic shows, nightlife. So, pretty much stay on the strip. This time we decided to explore attractions outside the strip. Searched for things to do in tripadvisor and stumbled across the attractive. Decided to check it out.
We reached there, I believe just an hour before closing. Not expecting much we stood in the main hall looking up at a huge exhibit of lion hunting. The room next to it had many more such exhibits. The best part was that the size of the displayed exhibits is actually means the tiger and bear look very real. I was told that in most cases even the skin and hairs are real. Overall, we enjoyed everything and it was one of a kind experience. I highly recommend visiting the museum. There is something for everyone not just the kids.

We enjoyed the dinosaur explanations very much. Kind of an old school museum. The Egypt exhibit was good but was a strange fit… it had more info on Egyptians but almost zero regarding the First Nations people who have lived in Vegas for over 10,000 years. We were disappointed there wasn’t more information on first peoples.

Not many people go to Las Vegas for the museums but I wanted to see this one. I was not disappointed. It is small and is easy to tour... A relaxing and educational experience....

A Las Vegas resident tipped me off to this little gem. Quite a few natural life exhibits and history, but the real gem is the Egyptian exhibit, showing replicas of King Tut's tomb and items from the tomb. It is one of the best that I have seen, even in much bigger museums. Worth the small price of admission just for that alone.

If you’re sick of the Strip and all that it offers or the wonders of the Fremont Experience, take an air conditioned break from the glitz and sin and educate yourself for a couple of hours. We spent a quiet afternoon enjoying the exhibits, learning about Nevada natural history, Egyptian history and just delighted in being somewhere that was calm and not full of flashing neon lights. The price of admission is most reasonable and there is lots to see. It’s not fancy, but to me, it was much needed after spending too much time near the casinos. The staff were extremely nice, helpful and welcoming. I do wish the gift shop had more of a selection of souvenirs because I would have liked to have bought something to help keep their endeavors going. It was a lovely museum trip.

Is parking nearby, and about how much would it cost?
Written 22 June 2017
Two hours perhaps, although we've spent longer on our two visits there. Highlights: the Egyptian display, which some years ago was the display in the Luxor hotel (and then donated I believe to the museum). All reproductions, but very well done and historically accurate. We've enjoyed the display of Nevada desert animals as well as the small collection of rocks and minerals. The dinosaur display is rather outdated, I think, but kids would enjoy it anyway.

Anyone know how much a cab to the museum would be from the strip? Does a bus stop near by?
Written 14 July 2016
Via Lyft, it's about $15-$20 from the Flamingo to the museum. Taxis would be a bit more. There are certainly busses nearby, but I don't know the prices or schedules. You can access that information online, though it won't let me post a link here.

I'm going to Las Vegas in August. I'm staying at the Flamingo. Is the museum within walking distance? Any idea how much a cab might charge? Ty

To far to walk! August temps will bee about 95. The bus would be your best bet.

It is about a mile to walk . I would take a taxi . There is also the mob museum about 2 blocks from Fremont street . I had lunch at Binion's Cacino like a step back in history
