I would definitely call this little beach a hidden gem. It's very small but cosy and never seemed to be busy. When we went we only saw locals. The absolute selling point of this beach is the sunset: beautiful view of the ocean and the rocks on one side, Lion's head on the other side and the 12 Apostles on the other other side. Breathtaking!

The downside is that it's mostly broken sea-shells so it can be a bit uncomfortable to lounge or walk to the water, but people chilled on the rocks or the grassy bit past the boats. I can also imagine it might be difficult to find parking space. We drove into and parked near the cul-de-sac after the sign that said "Bakoven".

A little further out from the main Camps Bay beach. Named after the Bakoven rock that sits a little out to sea (It looks like a pizza oven). A gorgeous spot to perch on a rock and watch the sun go down.

This quiet part of the coast is a great place to watch and listen to the sea. We were staying at accommodation close by and just walked down. It took 5 minutes. There are probably a few access points to different parts of the beach - we walked down a lane between the private houses and where we were the beach was largely rocky. It was beautiful in the spring sun.

There did not seem to be any amenities (aside from a few cafés on the main road) but it was wonderful just to be there in the late afternoon.

We stayed across the street from this beach and went twice. First or the sunset 🌅 it’s a small sandy area, but everyone just sits on the rocks and chills. Also, we went in September and it wasn’t crowded at all. On our last day we got coffee a block away at Bootleggers and just watched the waves .... no one was there and it’s super peaceful.

Catch it when it’s not busy and this is a very nice little spot. The beach itself is small and tricky underfoot because of the shells. The route isn’t easy with a pushchair - in fact I wouldn’t bother. However it’s a great spot to see the sun go down...

Bakoven has two little beaches which are very protected by the wind. It is safe to swim in the sea even though the water is freezing.

Stunning local beach, not too busy, beautiful for catching golden hour sunsets or going for a cold 'wimhof' style morning swim.

Went there 15 years ago and came back this time to explore more. Little parking and great climbing through the huge rocks. Fantastic photo spots all day.
